Can I just vent? Last night my FW and I sat down and messaged a bunch of her family chasing down addresses to send save the dates. Well she is messaging me (I am at work) telling me how most of them are telling her "no thank you we don't agree with your lifestyle choices." Like it is already hard and frustrating because our wedding is going to be one sided because I do not have a family (all toxic so I do not associate) and she was REALLY looking forward to all of her family coming and now they are all being small minded. She is trying not to let it get to her, but I know that it is and it breaks my heart for her and I wish that there was more that I could do!

Anyways, thanks for letting me vent I just needed to get it out!

That is what we are taking it as that this is a big red flag and lesson learned and now we know who we are going to include in life for the rest of our lives.

That’s so sad and pathetic. It’s 2020 and even then that’s their family they should love her regardless. I’m sorry you guys are going through that

It is so sad to see her heartbreak at people that she had no clue felt that way towards her tell her that when she asked for their address!

Wow okay I am sorry I was coming from a supporting place, Someone gave me the advice that I gave you and it helped me accept that certain members of my family didn't need to be invited only the ones who will support you and be happy for you, You don't need to be like that I was trying to help. I was coming across as focus and invite the people who do support you best wishes to you and your significant other

I'm so sorry.
Personally, I'd be snarky back, but, uh, as I've mentioned in another thread, that miiiiiiiiiiight not be the best way to deal with it.
Honestly, it's their loss. Them not showing up says volumes more about them than it does about you. It's better to be surrounded by people who support you - but when it's family that doesn't, it sucks more.

She wasn't snarky in the individual messages, but she did make a nice general social media post about her family that was pretty great and got some great comments on it so far! I just hate seeing her heartbreak, but she is learning who truly supports her and who doesn't so we are learning who to spend time with and who not to!

I am so sorry you and your FW are going through this. My best piece of advise is to thank them for not coming! You do not want anyone that does not fully support you at your wedding. You also don't want any negativity, which is sounds like is all these people will bring. Enjoy your day with the people who truly love and support you and forget the others!

I just hate seeing her heartbreak at family that she thought she was close with now having such a big issue with her sexuality. It is crazy. She is truly learning a lot about her family and it is heartbreaking to watch. But she has decided that she is going to embrace the ones that will come and support us and make it the best wedding that they will attend!
