Quotes from Vendors!

Loganna, on June 6, 2016 at 12:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Does anyone else get legitimately nervous when they get a quote from one of their vendors? I just got a quote from my caterer, and I have a pit in my stomach right now and haven't opened it yet. I did enough research to know around what to expect, but I get nervous about surprises and not being able to afford what I really want. Can anyone else relate, or am I just being a weirdo?

Sometimes, they're better than you expect! :-)

When I was researching my vendors, I looked at as much of their website(s) as I could to get a good understanding of what they offered and what they charged. In some cases, the quote came back lower than I expected. But no, I don't think it's weird!

Most of us would never want to make anyone feel that way, eek.

I get the same way. It's not that I'm legitimately scared or anything... it's just a weird limbo when you're waiting for that quote and when I see the email, my brain kind of goes, "well, now it's real! but wait, don't open it - it's about money!"

I get a little anxious when talking about large amounts of money (no matter if it's ours, my parents, or whoever) - I feel like it's my mother's insistence of it being impolite to talk about money, even though I obviously need to have a quote so I can determine if they're in budget... it's annoying!

I can relate! To me it's like you are so set on the vendor and have all of your hopes up regarding them but you know that that email could change all of that if it's much higher than you expected.

I only got nervous when waiting for the quote from our venue. We both had very different "must haves" for the venue, and this was the only venue I could find that had everything we both wanted. I was really nervous when I got the quote because I really wanted it to be in budget so neither of us had to compromise on things that were important to us. But I opened it, and all was well.

Yeah, I have anxiety issues as it is without people making me reach out to them for prices and whatnot. I worry irrationally about people I will never meet judging me for my budget.

When I got the actual quote, it was 3K higher than the original estimate - because they added gratuity to the ceremony and reception site fee, upgraded my dinner option to plated, and over charged for the champagne toast. I had to send the quote back three times to get it right. I'm an accountant and very detail oriented. It made me nervous for people who blindly sing those things. Be sure everything foots and that the prices are exactly what was advertised/offered!

I found a florist online. Their bouquet price I figured was a starting price. I did not want anything fancy but when I asked for more info they sent it and in the information packet they stated they have a minimum threshold. I crossed them out right away. Most vendors I find on WW price cheap to get your attention and their actual prices are way above normal

This happens to me every single time--especially if I've actually given them more information than just a basic "are you available and do you have a price sheet I could see" because I feel like I'm so invested in it and get overly enthusiastic...I'm on the same page!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I fall in love with a vendor, or in this case with an customized entree and salad combo, and then anxiously hold my breath to see if I'll be able to afford it. Plus, the numbers are so large that they look scary, even if it's definitely within my budget.

I also definitely don't like negotiating or correcting things. I have mild social anxiety, so phone calls fill me with dread...
