Question that just occurred to me! Do the photographer, etc get invites?!

Sarah, on April 30, 2011 at 9:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Gahhh!!! I sent out my invites recently, but it didn't occur to me to send one to the photographer and the DJ (who obviously have to be there anyway). What does etiquette say? They are both acquaintances (not close enough friends that they would have been invited if they weren't hired to work, but I distantly knew the photographer and my FH knew the DJ years ago). And if I DO send them out invites, does that mean I invite the photographer's wife as well? I don't know why this question evaded me until now. Thanks!

Because they are "working" I don't know if you would invite the wife, unless you would have invited her anyways. I had a live band play my wedding, and I am friendly towards the wife of the keyboard player. She is always at the t-shirt table selling the merchandise when ever they have performances, and I always go up and talk to her. I verbally extended the invite to the band and their wives. (the lead singer/manager did get an actual invite) Out of all the members, she was the only one to come. All the other wives stayed home. They didn't know me - and their hubbies were working.

You do not have to send invites to anyone working at your wedding. That is why you have a contract.

I agree with Christine, if you're paying them and have a contract, then I wouldn't be "inviting" them. IMO.

I know normally. But the fact that they were in a way friends/acquaintances confused me. Thanks for the input though ladies! Smiley smile

I do get invites occasionally, but mostly I get the save the date cards b/c they have my image(s) on them. I do appreciate it when I get an invite, however, because if they don't have the invitation at the wedding for me to photograph, I have one at home and can photograph it later for them.

Normally, No. However, because I am good friends with my Officiant, and he is leaving on Vacation the following day, I will send him an invite anyway, I'd like to have him there.

They don't need invites but they will need meals. Don't forget to feed them and include them in your count for dinner.

My photographer is an acquaintance of mine and I have met her family before I asked her to shoot my wedding. However, I sent one to the family partially for directions to the venue since she had never been there.

Get one to the photographer and/or videographer. They'll include a picture of it. Otherwise, you don't need to send one to any vendor. However, if you had planned on inviting them with a plus one or family then you will need to send an invitation.

Now go find a bra. And if you need to "fill it out" a little here is a discussion from before about buying the "chicken cutlets"

Now get moving on that dress fitting... or I'll have to show you MY Black buckled boots!

(I expect an update from you too) Smiley smile

Don't necessarily need an invite, but it is in our contract that we be seated with the regular guests and get a regular meal. Otherwise sometimes they shuffle the photographer away to another room to eat a "vendor meal" and then we end up missing important things (the toast, etc) - better to have the photographer right there in the room with you!
