Question regarding complimentary engagement photo sessions included in wedding photo packages?

Sarah, on November 13, 2020 at 10:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I listed the top 3 photographers that I am interested in taking our engagement and wedding photos. All of them offer a complimentary engagement photo session with their wedding photo package. If you had a similar package structure, how did you pay? I know it can vary but I'm still curious. I plan on taking engagement photos probably a year before the actual wedding date so I'm curious to see if we have to pay most of it upfront when the time comes to take engagement photos.. or if somehow they split it up into chunks so we only have to pay a fraction of it by then.

Thanks everyone!

Our wedding photography package included an engagement photo session. We had to pay half of our total package cost up front when we booked. We paid the second half 2 weeks before our wedding. We booked our photographer in January (paid half), had our engagement photos in March, and got married in October (paid 2nd half at the end of September).

Payment structure depends on the vendor. Ask what their typical policy is.

Our photographer offered a complimentary engagement session with our package. We had to pay a deposit to secure the wedding date, and the remaining balance has to be paid within a few weeks before our wedding. We are able to pay the rest in increments of whatever we need to and whenever we need to, just as long as the remaining balance is paid in full 2-3 weeks before our wedding. We were able to schedule our engagement session separately - as long as our deposit was paid, our remaining balance had no impact on the engagement photo session.

We paid half when we booked our photographer in December, had engagement photos taken in February, and paid the remaining half in September a week before the wedding.

Our package had a complimentary engagement session.

We had to pay a 20% deposit due within a week of signing our contract with her. This was also to lock in our wedding date. We are allowed to pay her however we see fit. Whether we save up the money and pay in one lump sum, or pay monthly. She has a online client portal where we can pay and see all of our invoices which is easier for us since we're wanting to do monthly payments with her.

Our wedding isn't until Jan. 2022 and we had our engagement session 2 weeks ago. She is also letting us have a second one with our dog next weekend free of charge. The fact that our wedding date is so far away, had no impact on payment or our sessions!

We just have to have our full payment in 2 weeks before the wedding date.

We paid our deposit upfront when we signed our contract, then paid the rest about a month before the wedding.

Our venue has an all inclusive package that we opted for. This includes the photographer. We had the option of engagement photos but decided on applying the cost of that towards the flash drive so we get all our wedding pictures.

We paid a 25% down payment/deposit and the rest is due closer to the wedding date. We did get a complimentary engagement session but we're not expected to pay more anytime soon to do the engagement session. (In our case the deposit was over $1,000 - so this more than covers the engagement session cost if it was separated).

An engagement shoot came with our package and we paid half up front but the engagement shoot wasn’t the reason. It is very typical for the photographer deposit to be half the total invoice to lock in the date and provide all services between booking and wedding day.

When we booked our photographer in March we paid 30% deposit. We payed another 20% in Sept so we had paid half in total. We had our shoot in Oct and tipped him. We will pay off the rest in maybe 2 payments by March

For ours it was a 30% down payment due at the time of the contract. Then the remaining was broke into 2 different payments 1 due a month before the wedding and the other due a week before the wedding.

All of that information will be in your contract and should be discussed at your first meeting with a potential photographer.
We paid a deposit to book ours. The payment dates were already written into the contract we signed. Then, we scheduled the engagement session based on when we wanted it. We wanted a specific season, but we could’ve booked it at any point before the wedding. It didn’t matter when the payments would be. Our first payment after the deposit is eight months after booking. The final payment is six months after that (which is about two months before the wedding).

When I did my engagement photos, I only had to pay for those after photo editing. When I talked to her about booking for the wedding too, she gave us a discount but also asked for a security deposit. It ended up being like $325 plus the engagement photos.
