Hi all,

I need opinions on what to do about offering wine at the reception. So, we want to offer two types of wine at the dinner reception however, my wedding planner told me that we will not be able to estimate how many bottles will be used over the course of the night. My fiancé would like to put a cap on how many bottles will be used by estimating the number of bottles so everyone can have two glasses of wine each and no more than that. (water, coffee, sodas and tea will be offered the whole night) I'm just not sure how I feel about putting a cap on the wine being offered. What do you think? Is putting a cap on the amount of wine offered okay? or do you think that putting a cap on the wine is a bad hosting practice?

Thank you in advance, this will really help me decide what i want to do.

@A. L. C - we won't be having other drinks available than what we have listed on our menu. Since our wedding is in a restaurant and there is a full bar it will be up to my guests if they want to use the bar or not.

Your planner needs to be a little more creative. There are calculators online that help you estimate how much wine you will need for the whole event...don't cap it.

I also love having the beer option it didn't even cross my mind to have one nor was it offered to me so I will have to ask my planner if this is something we could add in

An average estimate for drinks would be 2 the first hour and 1 drink every hour after that. I don't know why they said they couldn't estimate it. It's pretty standard. If the restaurant bottles are pricey, do they have corking fees for wines you bring into the restaurant? Might be worth looking in to.

Also know that your venue will have licensed bartenders who would lose said license if they served to an overly intoxicated person. Your adult guests will behave accordingly and your adult bartenders will know when to cut them off. Smiley smile

Morgan, that is extremely rude to make people pay at your wedding.

Morgan definitely look into the beer option on top of the wine! Wine gives me horrific migraines so the option of beer would be greatly appreciated as a guest

Would you invite someone to dinner at your home, offer them 2 glasses of wine, and then when they ask for a third tell them no, sorry 2 is the limit?
