Pushing back the wedding

Becky, on November 16, 2019 at 7:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3
I really don’t know how to even begin doing this how would I go about pushing back my wedding date? I had an unexpected surgery that set us back financially and is putting us in a situation where we are having to use a lot of the money we had saved up for our wedding Smiley sad. What do I do? What do I say to guests? Do I postpone for 6 months? A year? My mom is still wanting to do a bridal shower (4 months before the expected date) and says it’s still ok.)

That's really hard to say. It all depends on how much of your saved money went to your medical bills, to be honest. If it didn't put a HUGE dent in your savings, you can probably still have your wedding on the original date, although you may have to cut out "unnecessary expenses" from your budget to recover financially. If it's a lot or most of your savings gone, I think a year would be acceptable and your guests would have to understand. Your health and well-being are paramount and sometimes things happen. Sorry to hear about your surgery by the way, I hope you're recovering well. But yes, you'd have to look at your finances with your fiance and determine what the best route would be. I'm sure you both will quickly see whether or not you can continue with the wedding on the intended date, or postpone for half or a full year. All the best to you, Becky! I truly hope everything works out in your favor!!

Start by contacting any vendors you have booked to see if you would lose deposits or if they would be willing to work with you. Talk to your VIP guests and give them a heads up that you're thinking about moving it. Have you sent STDs? Don't have a shower before the new date and guest list is set.

Hey Becky! I’m so sorry that you are having to go through this. I really hope that everything has gone well with your surgery and are recovering well. Your health is the most important thing, so make sure you look after yourself. If you are postponing your wedding anyway, be sure to give yourself enough time to recover your health before diving into planning your wedding again. Do you think that 6 months is realistic since this situation has set you back financially?

You should reach out to all of your vendors and explain your situation. You may lose your deposit, or you may be able to reschedule your booking for your new wedding date. Make sure to ask what your options are.

Have you sent out your Save The Dates to your guests? I would send them all a new notice ASAP explaining that due to unforeseen circumstances the wedding has to be postponed but that they will get a new STD with the new wedding date as soon as possible.
