Pushed Back Wedding - Early Invites?

Brianne, on May 11, 2020 at 4:23 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24
Our wedding was supposed to be June 6th, now August 1st. We sent save the dates for June 6th. We decided not to for our new date because we spent a lot of money on big refrigerator magnets the first time around. We posted a video (music/pictures/video of him proposing) on Facebook letting people know we rescheduled. It was popular and thousands of people viewed it so we thought we were definitely good and that our 400 guest surely saw or heard. However, we have tons of people asking about our wedding all the time. How early are you sending out your invites? Should we send them out extra early? Will that cause problems?Pushed Back Wedding - Early Invites? 1

Social media isn’t a way to notify people of a cancelled event. There’s no way that every single one of your 400 guests is active on Facebook. I wouldn’t send invites extra early as that will give you a false headcount. People can’t give you a definitive yes or no answer about an event that’s months away, especially at this time. I would send change of date cards or reach out to each household individually to let them know about the postponement.

First of all, you look amazing in that black dress!!
Second, I’ve been thinking the same thing. We are getting married in October and were going to send out invites in August, but thought about a month earlier. Although, we are waiting on cdc guidelines for our state to determine how many guests we can have at our wedding first before we even send out invites.
If I were you with a 400 person guest count I would keep an eye on your state’s guidelines as well, because as far as weddings go for the rest of the year, there will most likely be a guest count limit, unfortunately. I hope everything works out!

We also sent out change the date cards that were only $30 from Zola.

Thanks! I may check that out. Indiana will (supposedly) be up and running full throttle by July 4th (that’s the plan for now- though things could obviously change). I’ll check out Zola for sure!

I would send out “change the dates” ASAP and then send invitations 8 weeks before the wedding. You look gorgeous in that photo btw!

We blasted a digital change the date notice via text message to all of our guests, and then we updated our website with all of the new information. It wasn’t as formal, but it was really cute, and was the quickest and easiest way to get the message to everyone. It also saved us the additional cost. We’ll be sending invites out at the normal 6-8 weeks out.

Thank you all! Kate, did you use a certain platform for blast your change the date? That’s a great idea. Zola sounds perfect but we’re at that really awkward time because we’ll be mailing out invites in a couple weeks

We were actually very lucky and a designer offered to do the digital change the date for us when she found out our wedding had been impacted. They turned out really cute. It was also printable but we just found texting to be easier. This is what it looked like...

Your engagement photos are gorgeous and you look amazing in that dress!

400 people is a lot of people to keep track of. Is there a way you can individually notify all of them of the change of date without sending snail mail?

We have a much smaller guest list (about 80 people) and have kept them up to date via email. We did our initial STDs via email (but did a paper invites) so had everyone's email address already, which has made sending subsequent updates much easier.

Also, I figured you have already done this, but I'd update your wedding website as well. The wedding website is a good one stop shop for everything about your wedding and will be the reference point many of your guests turn to if/when they have questions.

OK your engagement pictures are beautiful first of all!

Our original date was an April, and when we decided to postpone we had already sent out invitations and most RSVPs sent back. I sent out a group text message or Facebook messages to notify everyone of the new date, and I contacted our invitation company and asked them if they could help us with a discount for a reprint. I would suggest reaching out to whoever you got your save the dates from, and talk to customer service directly and see what they can do. You would be surprised what they are offering if you talk to them directly

Thank you Leanne! You’re right, I feel like so many businesses have been so understanding and helpful during this time. But then I’ve also been blown away by all the poor women I see on here who can’t get their money back from canceling their weddings 😔 I know everyone’s just trying to survive but dang. Facebook messages are a great idea as well!! ❤️

I set up greenvelope for digital announcement, emails, etc. You do have to pay per guest so that might not be your best bet! I'd get email addresses, I asked for them with my save the date - and send an email/text to everyone using one of your images.

400 is just.... so ... many. Beautiful photos...

I was in the same boat as you and debating whether to send change the date cards or send invitations early? So I chose an inexpensive way that cost me $120 bucks with stamps, envelopes and cards for 130 addresses.

The reason being is because we don’t know what the gathering number will be come September. We would hate to have to send something out to guests saying “hey sorry we had to cut you.” So for us change-of-plan card made more sense and gave people an opportunity to rearrange their schedules and figure out if they could make it. Happy Planning!

That makes so much sense. I worry about that too! Indiana is supposed to be good by July 4th, but if we spoke we start back at stage one. It would be incredibly awkward

Yeah, Texas is starting to reopen and cases are continuing to climb. We haven’t flattened yet, which I think we should have waited to open when we were on the downward drop. But what do I know. Business need to re-open and people need to get back to work. I am positive we will be back to shelter in place by the end of June.
