Purchasing Flowers Online

Kristyn, on July 27, 2011 at 12:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 25

This might be a long shot, but has anyone heard anything good or bad about www.wholeblossoms.com? I was originally against real flowers, because I'm not much of a flower person, but I think my girly side is beginning to show up more or something, because now I want the real deal. I'm considering going the DIY route with the help of a florist friend and I'm just trying to price things out.

I personally have no experience with wholeblossoms.com but I did a little research and they seem to have pretty good ratings online ...

    http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews244929.html

They're not BBB Accredited but they do have a rating: A-

They received 2 complaints that have been resolved. Both involve Defective, damaged, or incorrect product received but the Company resolved the complaint issues.

This is what I'm going for - it doesn't seem like it should be extremely difficult (I hope - I am, however, unsure of how to make it so round). My BMs will carry a mini version, I'm debating going without bouts (not a fan of them) and my centerpieces will just be submerged roses (I can handle that for sure). I'm sure that the price difference wouldn't be THAT much to go through a local brick and mortar florist but I'm not even close to being impressed with ANY florists in my area.

Okay, seriously, if you're wanting to DIY go through theflowerexchange...no joke. My best friend got some where around 350 flowers and greens for $300. I'm paying just over $1000 to do my flowers (which is cheap here in CO). I'll let you know for sure how the flowers turned out and how good they look when the arrive on Friday. Also, check out youtube for how tos for your bouquet Smiley smile

Wowza' am I slow today LOL. Thanks, Kimi!! Smiley smile

PS - even though I changed my theme and date, I'm still definitely going with the rainboot/photo idea - I told FH that I'll make fake rain puddles if I have to. Smiley winking

Kristyn! The flowers came today...earlier than tomorrow morning...but still came and they look BEAUTIFUL!!! Plus, they called yesterday and said they were on the search for a replacement for the gerbs as they were not up to standards...when the flowers arrived today, there were gerbs in the packages and they were perfect! I hope that helps!!! We have tons of flowers and it was only $300!!

If youre going for cheap your local grocer will have those flowers or can order them in bulk for ya. I believe it will be cheaper than buying online.

I have also heard good things about fiftyflowers.com and even think that they offer discount codes in some of the bridal magazines (either Brides or Martha Stewart is where I remember seeing them). I will check when I gethome tonight and see if I can track some codes!

BBB is a pay to play organization, so their accreditation means someone paid a fair amount to be on their site - just an FYI

As for any online flower supply, check how they maintain their "cold chain" and make sure you know the shipping costs. One supplier on this coast has inexpensive prices... until you count in the shipping.

Also, do you have a plan B if the flowers arrive damaged and/or distressed? If you're set in DIY, a local source like Anjuli suggests is a really good idea.

Cydney, thanks so much for letting me know - I spent a good hour on their site last night and doing research and I'm really impressed.

I'm going to check out fiftyflowers too so that I can compare.

I will certainly figure a plan B, just in case, we have one locally owned grocer where I live and I will most likely inquire if they could/would have the number of roses and stephonitis that I need should something go wrong.

I've got a while, so maybe I'll find a random reason to order flowers from a company or two "just because" and make them useful for something. Smiley smile

I looked at fiftyflowers.com when doing the research for my friends wedding...I think the reason we went for theflowerexchange.com was it had a 'wedding box' with the flowers she wanted and in her colors, which was the best price! But I can tell you first hand due to the fact that we did order our flowers direct from theflowerexchange and I have them in hand and know they were a good choice. I can't speak obviously for the other company...but I do know I'll be recommending theflowerexchange from here on out Smiley smile

The only downside to doing the flowers yourself is making sure you have a place to keep them cold before the wedding. We were going to do this by picking flowers at a local flower farm but finding a cooler large enough and local to keep them was just not happening. Especially since the wedding is at the end of June. Can't just put them in the garage and hope they don't wilt overnight. If you're willing to put in the extra time the day of or night before if you have storage, it's probably worth it but honestly, we found a woman who does flowers on the side and she is amazing! Has the resources and skills to put together something awesome and for very little money. Good luck! I'm sure either way, they'll be beautiful!
