PSA: your bridesmaids are not your glitter slave whores

AshMar, on August 3, 2016 at 9:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

I am out to eat with an old coworker. She is a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding and here is the list of things she told me that the maid of honor is requiring them to do .. When the bride asked her party, they had to go out to a restaurant, pay for parking, their own drinks and food (I understand drinks and food.) there is a mandatory bridesmaids meeting at Dave n busters that requires a $36 entry that will go towards the bride and groom. The MOH is choosing the dress of her choice for the whole party to wear. The bride is requiring her girls to get airbrushed makeup.

My ex co worker asked me for my advice and asked me how I would feel if someone were to drop out of my wedding and how she should tell this girl she doesn't want to be in the party anymore. I don't blame her and told her to tell the bride PRIVATELY.

What a shit show.

ETA: oh. There's also a contract

Something along the line of, "When I agreed to be in your wedding, I didn't realize there would be an entry fee at meetings, I would have no input on the dress or how much it cost and that you would require airbrushed makeup. I now realize I can't afford to be in your wedding." Then wish her the best and get out of there.

    Yes they are.

JK please don't hate me. My girls are getting frustrated that I'm not giving them enough direction.

I just bs with bridesmaid and maid of honor. I have yet to have them actually help with stuff. We went to bridal expo for fin and my MOH wouldn't let me carry my own tote. I told her when I asked her to be in the wedding that with 3 kids and a 4th on the way that I understand if she can't do it. But I also told her her only responsibility is keeping me calm.

@jaci it's very true. I watched bridesmaids the other night and all I could think was holy shit at the shower thrown by Katherine

WTF. How can you even have a meeting in a Dave and Buster's and hear anyone talk to plan anything? Assuming it was meeting to plan a shower or something? You go to Dave and Busters for a bachelorette if that's your thing, but that's all.

Haha! My MOH and I did a little shopping before my bachelorette weekend started, and she kept trying to do everything, pay for everything, etc. Finally, when she was trying to carry my shopping bags for me, I stopped her and actually said, "Honey, you are not my glitter-covered slave!" She got a pretty big kick out of that and proceeded to tell me that being my glitter-covered anything sounded pretty fun to her LMAO

Sassy - my MOH is a web designer and wanted to make our wedding website, had volunteered to make all our signs volunteered to do invites... The list goes on. I love her and that's why I want her right there with me. I am going to have her do a few things but really I just need her to keep my from going crazy. She doesn't need to consider my wedding a part time job lol!!
