OMG please DON'T spray tan!!!!! Have you read what they actually use? They use an acetone called DHA this is the literature I was givin for mystic tan: " sunless tanning booths like those offered by mystic tan and their ompetitors use dihydroxyacetone to darken the skin. While the FDA in 1977 approved DHA for topical uses, this does not mean its safe for mucus membranes or sensitive areas like you lips. Furthermore, the FDA never considered that DHA would be applied as a mist! In fact some of the chemicals found in DHA are LEAD, MERCURY AND ARSENIC"

LEAD, MERCURY AND ARSENIC are highly Toxic and can kill you if invested enough! One of my friends is battling lead poisoning right now ( not because of tanning) I wouldn' t wish what she is going through on anyone. Please inform yourself before sunless tanning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't spray tan, I am ok with being pale. I think everyone should take the time to do their own research and decide if the risk is worth it to them. Just from what little I looked up IMO provided the proper precautions are taken getting a spray tan is relatively low risk.

@GBAC - as Kelly mentioned not all skin types are created equal. Some people are at higher risk for skin cancer. Instead of making such a broad statement it would be better for people to look-up if they are at higher risk. Skin cancer rates are actually increasing in the USA...

Right on, Shannah! I know that I have a "year around tan" so "I don't understand", yada yada yada. Like I've always told my fair skinned friends, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the skin they were born in, pale is beautiful and black is beautiful too. But people will do what they want to do no matter how bad it is for you, whether it's smoking a pack a day or lying in a tanning bed - just as long as they've been made aware of the risks (thanks for the PSA, theragirl!) I just hope that the ladies here who are choosing to do so aren't doing it simply to conform to the tiny little box that American society has defined as beauty. We all deal with it in some form and I wish that we'd all support each other a whole lot better in accepting our unique and beautiful differences. I got tired of trying to conform to American/European standards and dumping toxins into my hair to get it bone straight, so I chopped it off. Embrace what you were born with!

    And with that,

Vitamin D from the sun is good for you its just constant baking in it and never protecting yourself... In states where it gets cold and snow its actually good to go to a tanning bed a couple times a month to help prevent winter depression. Which can be very serious.. They are putting tanning beds in old folks home for the Vitamin D. Doses is moderation is actually healthy. Smiley smile
