Protecting Engagement Rings

Kasey, on May 23, 2016 at 3:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hi -- I just got engaged and love my ring, but I worry about it getting scratched at the gym when I'm lifting weights. And also when I'm cooking -- I worry about the food getting stuck in the detailing. Do these happen to anyone? Do you just take it off -- but then do you worry about leaving it in your gym locker or next to the sink?

I have a small dish next to the sink where I put my rings when cooking and washing dishes. I also have a ring holder on my nightstand where I keep my rings when I sleep. I never take them off and just lay them somewhere - only those 2 places. The safest place for your rings is on your hand! I don't have a suggestion for the gym. I would probably stop by home first and leave them there.

I have a Qalo ring that I wear when I go to the gym. That way I don't have to worry about it getting messed up or being stolen. I tend to leave it on when cooking unless I am handling raw meat or something. And then it comes off when I got to bed, mainly because I've scratched FH one to many times with it when I was wearing it to bed.

I HATE cooking with it. Usually I take it off as soon as I come in the house.

    Congrats!!

I leave mine at home when I got to the gym. I also take it off when I use any kind of cleaning chemicals or make something like meatloaf. I keep a ring dish on the bar in the kitchen so I won't lose it. The rest of time I don't worry about it. It's going to get scratched. It's going to get food in it. I clean it at least once a week and every 6 months take it in to get it cleaned/buffed/inspected.

I take mine off as soon as I'm home too; I don't wear it to shower/cook/garden, etc. I won't wear it to to the gym. I have considered getting a cheap band to wear in times like the gym though--a public place where I might want to wear a ring, but don't want to get my ering dirty.

I don't wear mine to bed or to the gym. I usually leave it on when I'm cooking unless I have to dig into meat or dough or something. I have a ring I wear on my right hand that FH gave me for my birthday. I got it inspected a year later and I had a broken prong and small abrasions on the sapphire and the appraiser told me to stop wearing it to bed so I take all my jewelry off at night now.

I wear gloves when washing dishes - both to protect my ring and to protect my nails.

FH handcrafted the ring box he proposed with (wood with heavy magnets to keep the top shut securely), so I store my ring in there when doing more manual things, like working in the barn or riding my horse. I like the box because it's portable; if I'm going to the gym or running after work, I can bring the box with me and just put my ring in it before I work out, so I don't have to panic about putting it somewhere different. I usually put the box in my purse and lock that in my trunk.

See if you can get a storage box or pouch that you would be OK carrying around in your gym bag - use a clip to keep inside your bag so other people can't easily see it. Then lock it the whole mess in a locker Smiley smile

I only take mine off for cooking, doing dishes and for showering. I have ring holders by the sinks. I keep it on for everything else, even for bed. Actually, I used to take it off while doing homework, since I was typing for hours. Just easier I guess!

I take mine off for cooking, showering, and going to the gym. I have a ring bowl that I set my rings in and that is the only place I put them so that I do not loose them.

I'm the minority here but I keep mine on when I lift weights and cook. I take it off when I shower. I figure I may as well break it in now if I'm wearing it the rest of my life! It goes through the battle with me! Lol. Our jeweler does cleanings anytime I need though for free

I leave mine at home when I go to the gym. I don't sleep with my ring, I also have a ring holder (FH made it for me at color me mine) by the kitchen sink that my ring goes on when I am cooking, doing dishes or bathing kids.

I have ring holders everywhere! I have one in my bathroom, by my bed, in the kitchen (far away from my sink), and one in a drawer at work (that locks). I don't wear mine when working out. My fingers would swell way too much and I wouldn't want to scratch myself! I take it off when I'm doing dishes, cooking, cleaning, sleeping, showering, but it always goes in one of my ring holders. Never anywhere else!

I take mine off if I work out or cook or clean the house. What about buying a simple ring case so you can just pop in there whenever you're not home? In addition to our bands, FH and I plan on getting those Qalo rings because we are quite active. Those could also be a good option for you!
