I’ve always thought I would do a seating chart, but I already imagine it’s going to be a headache. Our guest list is 240 people. Do you all think I should just make a seating chart or let people decide where to sit? The only con of not making one is that I fear that a family of 5 might not be able...
I’ve always thought I would do a seating chart, but I already imagine it’s going to be a headache. Our guest list is 240 people. Do you all think I should just make a seating chart or let people decide where to sit? The only con of not making one is that I fear that a family of 5 might not be able to sit together because there’s no longer 5 open seats at a table. All thoughts and advice welcome

We have a similar size (assuming all RSVP yes) and we are assigning tables. FH has a huge family that is also families of 4 or 5. We worked up a rough chart just to get an idea. We used an excel document. I created groups of 8 as that is what our tables seat. I started by listing the largest families first. Then decided who would sit with them to fill the table. I tried to go with another family with children first. Then went to grandparents of that particular family next. There are a couple of families with smaller children so we squeezed 9 at a couple tables! And a couple tables of 7 just because there wasnt room for another family and I dont want to put singles or couples without kids at a table of family just to save a chair! Obviously it can/will change with RSVPs but it gave us a good idea of how many tables we COULD need at max!

For a party that big a seating chart is a must. Will be way too crazy other wise. Honestly once you get into it it’s not that bad. Just make a list of groups like.. your family, his family, etc.. then divide it that way.

Pro: It keeps drunk Uncle Joe from hitting drunk Uncle Paul because of three years ago they disagreed on Fantasy Football. It helps people not feel awkward about where to sit. It helps make sure that there is no overflow on seats. It helps people sit around people they know so they can talk.

Con: You have to sit down and do it.
