Pros and Cons of Videographer

PressleyPartyof2, on January 20, 2017 at 7:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

My FH and I are getting married in September. I have charged him with the task of finding the photographer and videographer. He is very cautious with the purse strings and doesn't really believe in spending a ton of money on just a single day. My question is what are the pros and cons of NOT having a videographer at a wedding!?

I didn't hire a videographer, so I'm interested in what the response will be

    Pro:

You get beautiful professional recap videos of your day.

You can see and remember your ceremony if you had excitement brain and it's all a blur.

You can see a side that you may have missed (moreso at the reception).

    Con:

It can get pricey just for a small video, and extra for documentary style (if you want the full ceremony for instance).

The videographer is another mouth to feed.

Some couples end up not even looking at their wedding video after the initial viewing.

I've had friends tell me they only have watched their video once, so I'm opting out of that expense.

I think a videographer is worth it. I didn't hire one but a relative shot the ceremony which is a beautiful memory to watch with my husband but we are both very sad that we did not get our first dance as mr. and mrs. on video. It's a once in a lifetime day. Make it memorable

It comes down to personal preference. I'm super close to my family and I know FH isn't a fan of having his photo taken, so to have a video of our day with the people we care about most was important to me.

We actually picked out our photographer based on his partner who does amazing videography. The only con in my mind is that the price tag for photography went up.

    For pros

    - we have quite a few guests who are out of the area during the month of our wedding and won't be able to travel home - so they can see a 7-10 minute recap of the day - from getting ready to the ceremony - to the reception.

    - when we're old and gray (and hopefully together) we, and our family will be able to see the video

    - I feel like there's a good chance I'm going to miss out on a lot since so much will be going on during our wedding day - I'm excited to see some aspects I miss during cocktail hour and the reception.

We were totally against a videographer because of the cost until this week. We started talking about family videos and I've always been sad that we don't have any from my family, especially after I lost a lot of people. FH and I take video of special occasions and we both flipped on the idea and are now looking for one.

Im skipping it unless i find a great deal. I dont see myself or my fh sitting down and watching it too often. I do hear its a common bride regret to not have one, especislly in case a loved one passes away. It would be nice to have them on video on such a special day

Would you have wanted to watch your grandparents wedding? It's an investment for us but we consider it worth it.

Agree with Celia. The cheap ones I've found in my area weren't great, and the great ones were pretty pricey. I didn't really find a decent in between, so I reallocated that budget to getting a really great photography package.

If you have the money to splurge, I can't really see a downside!
