Hi! So I am taking a trip with my boyfriend in November to meet his mother and siblings for the first time for thanksgiving but while on the trip I plan to propose to him! But I don’t know how to talk to my own family about it first! Any ideas on how I should do it? I’m 20 and he is 22 and I know he’s it for me, I’ve never been more sure about something in my life. Please HELP.

I have to say, reading some of your follow-up, I'm going to agree that your rushing. If November is 8 months, then not only did you begin dating in March, but in March during a pandemic which seems like a lot. I'm not going to say that it won't work - my parents met in March and got married in September (they were married for nearly 40 years, until my dad died) - but that was 1972.

Marriage is definitely work. You have to work every day on your commitment to one another. Is that really a commitment you're both prepared to make? Are you prepared for car accidents, job losses, finances, and all the other myriad things that come with marriage? Is he?

Also your discussion as a hypothetical definitely doesn't put him in the position of he's ready necessarily. You need a longer, less hypothetical, discussion of where you each are. BEFORE you talk to your family.
