Proposal Idea?

Johnny, on October 4, 2019 at 2:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hello! Im proposing to my girlfriend hopefully this weekend. The trees are changing colors where I am so I planned to take her for a hike through the aspens and at the end of the hike I will have her parents and my parents waiting in the parking lot. Once she sees them I will propose to her. The problem is coordinating this. I have a hard time trusting people to get things done and on time. The timing of this would need to be perfect as the hike is around 30 minutes. the hike is an hour away from where we all live. So it would be a little drive. What do you think of this idea? Any way I can improve it? Thank you!

I think that's a cute idea! My only advice would be to make sure someone takes photos, because you're both going to want to look back. I would just stress to the family how important it is for them to be on time. Good luck!!

Honestly it's such a cute idea. And from what PP said having someone capture the moment is good

I assume all the parents know of this plan? Why don’t you text them when you’re leaving to head to the hiking trail. They can then leave 15 minutes later. That way when you get there you can walk the trail, and they should be there waiting when you get done. You can also try to make a point of stopping to look at all the cool colors of the leaves to give them extra time to arrive and get to where they need to be. As an extra touch, I would have your parents bring a bottle of champagne and some glasses for everyone to celebrate (assuming she says yes!). If champagne isn’t your thing, then maybe a little cake or picnic of some sort to make it extra special. If you’re worried about the parents getting there on time, just make sure you keep calling or texting them in the days leading up to it to reiterate how important this is. And let them know if they’re not there, they will miss out on the proposal. Sometimes an empty threat is needed to get people to cooperate. Good luck and congrats!

Such a great plan! I definitely suggest having someone ready to take photos, and if your girlfriend is the type of person that gets her nails done, maybe get a her a gift certificate and tell her its a just because gift a couple days before so her nails will be pretty for taking pictures of the ring.

No but seriously it’s so exciting that you’re on here asking for advice.

Definitely stress to family to be early and be prepared to take pics.

Also a way you can delay with her is taking pictures while you walk and such. Take pictures with her along the way so she can look back and have it documented.

Good luck!!! Hope to hear good news!

This is crucial! She won't suspect a thing! My fiance asked my mom to invite me to get my nails filled in a few days prior to my engagement. Maybe do the same? Or ask her close girlfriend!

What if you proposed to her during the walk, while you’re still on the trail, and have the parents there with champagne in the parking lot? That way you won’t need to stress about the timing.
