Jenny, on November 12, 2017 at 4:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Is anyone not using or didn't use a professional photographer for their reception?

Echoing PPs, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't have one. I plan on socializing at my reception, but I also know I'll be so busy that I won't be able to see everyone having fun and enjoying themselves, so I want to have the photos to look back on. Plus, I'm hoping for some embarrassing pics of my FH on the dance floor lol

Our ceremony and reception photos are priceless. I couldn't imagine not having a pro for the reception as well.

I was just concerned with the price and looking areas to cut cost but maybe this isn't the place.

If cost is an issue, could you find a photographer who could just cover a few hours, get the ceremony and some of the reception, maybe up to the cake cutting? You don't need the whole day captured, but wedding photos are so priceless. Many photographers will do an a la carte option and will agree to do maybe 4 hours and cut down on features like albums. This will save you a lot of money.

We hired professionals. However, after we signed our we cut our cake, they stopped working and the film students covered the cocktail hour, photos of guests and reception.

A professional photographer was the one vendor I really wanted to have, however because our wedding is at a pretty remote rural site, cost, and FH preference for a low key and relaxed schedule on our day we just are going to have friends/family do candid pics instead. After the honeymoon FH and I will have a professional wedding portrait taken.
