Professional Make-up for Engagement Photos

My engagement photos are next weekend and I'm still debating this. If I do decide to have my makeup done, I will go to Sephora. I know many brides use their engagement photos as an opportunity to do a trial with their HMUA, however, I have no clue how I want to do my hair or makeup for the wedding and it's still a little soon for my trial.

I had my makeup and hair done professionally but I know brides that have done their own makeup for engagement photos.

That's what I was thinking also! Our wedding is not until June 27, 2020. We are having a domestic destination wedding so it would be great to have a mini-HMU trial done but it's so far out from the actual day. I guess I could get it done at the place I'm considering having our HMU done and see what their work is like.

Did you like how your photos turned out? I want to look somewhat natural in my photo's and not too over done.

I did my own hair and makeup for engagement photos, but to be honest, it was pretty much just a slightly more refined version of my day-to-day routine. Our engagement shoot was way too far before the wedding to comfortably use it as a hair and makeup trial, and I wanted to look more like my normal self than a bride, if that makes sense. I'm someone who doesn't really ever get *that* dressed up, so I mostly didn't want to look too different than how I normally picture myself.

I had my hair and makeup done for my engagement shoot. My hair was just done in curls! For my makeup I had airbrush foundation and false lashes. I usually wear a small amount of makeup, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to do my own makeup very well. It looked like a lot when she put it on, but took a picture which softened it! My HMUA reminded me that you need more in person because in the photos it won’t show up as much! She was definitely right!

I will be getting mine done, especially since I am having them done while on vacation in Hawaii. I am not bringing but a small bit of my makeup or any hair styling tools, and I’m also not familiar with the climate and wouldn’t be able to base my makeup application off of it properly. I’m going for a really simple neutral look and having a blowout for my hair, so it’s nothing over the top

I got my hair and makeup done professionally for ours and I am so happy I did.

I did my own hair and makeup. I am definitely someone who doesn’t get too done up everyday so I wanted to look natural, but did do my eye makeup more than normal (eyeliner, eyeshadow, etc).

I had a professional make up artist come and do my make up and I did my own hair, only because I ran out of time and couldn’t go to the salon.

I did everything myself, even my nails.. I didn’t want to spend extra $$ when I can do that myself.. I don’t wear make up everyday so im not so good so it either , only in special occasions, so I looked up some tutorials and boom done lol.. I also like natural looks, I hate looking like I got a mask on lol..

I went and got mine done at Ulta, but mainly because I don't wear makeup (and have NO idea how to apply it). Also, I wanted to look a little extra special in the photos and LOVE the way they turned out.

I would say yes, get done up. Maybe not crazy, just a friend who's good at make up. You will probably get a few shots of you alone, same with your partner, and these more casual photos of you are really useful for not wedding stuff. It's nice to have some casual photos of you guys not from your wedding, you'll maybe use them as save the dates, but theyr'e nice for around the house & social media.

I could’ve easily done my own makeup but these are very special pictures that are going on our save the date cards and to print out and use for the wedding/the website so I got it done hair and makeup and they are the ladies I’ll be using for my wedding like a pre-trial of their work 😊

I'm going to do my own makeup.
I'll also be doing my own hair.
Although I will be having it professionally trimmed and colored 6 days before the engagement photos.

I did my own hair and makeup but it wasn’t anything crazy. I’ve definitely gotten better at makeup though!
Im also doing my own makeup for my bridal shower and probably the wedding too.

I wanted to do my hair and makeup trial on the same day as my engagement photos, so I could look professionally done.

Well, life got in the way, and I wasn't able to work it out. So, I had to do my own hair (ugh!) and my daughter helped me with my makeup. I think it still looked ok. Had the photos done last weekend. I'll post the preview when I get them.

View Quoted Comment Same. But I do my makeup on a daily basis, so it wasn't a big deal to just step it up a bit. And I wore my hair down, slightly wavy, which is also my normal look. Just a bit more purposeful.

I had my makeup done and did my hair myself. I really loved how my makeup looked and it photographed beautifully!
