Processional: songs with words or no words??

FutureMrsJohnson, on July 30, 2015 at 2:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I have the processional song choices narrowed down....I think. But I really love the words to both of these songs. I would assume the bulk of the guests will not know either song and I'll be concentrating so hard on not falling or ugly crying, that it probably won't matter. I do think instrumental feels more wedding-y.

Here are the instrumental versions, what do you think?

I am having a piano version of my favourite song played when I walk down the aisle. It's 30 seconds to Mars-closer to the edge. Not wedding appropriate as quite loud but played on piano is stunning!

Have what YOU and you FH want x

I'm struggling with this myself. I think I've finally decided on a newer version of here comes the bride.

In my opinion #1 sounds more fun and #2 more traditional if that helps you any.

Just remember that with lyrical versions of songs, the whole song won't be played. Where will it be cut off? Instrumental is always a safe choice, but if you are able to play the whole song, or just the lyrical part that you want to be heard, then go with that.

I never heard either of these songs before but I just checked out the versions you put up and the originals for comparison and I must say I love the original versions quite a bit. I'm not a huge fan of piano instrumentals myself as they sound really "classical" to me. That's just my personal taste, I understand everyone is different. I think they would both be beautiful as guitar instrumentals. Here's first day of my life:

At my ceremony I will be having a live guitarist and he will be doing vocals as well.

What's the average "walk down the aisle" song length? That's something i'm struggling with.

I love piano instrumentals. FH reaaaaaally wanted me to walk down the aisle to the instrumental version of "whenever you call" by Mariah Carey and Brian McKnight - but Catholic Church so lots of restrictions and rules on what you can use Smiley sad We're using it as our first dance song (probably, though we need to do some test runs, I'm a little worried it might be too slow).

We're using Canon in D for the processional. I love instrumental for processionals TBH Smiley smile If you love the words to those songs, why not use them for signing the register or in your reception somewhere, and pick an instrumental you like for the processional?

I love FutuerMrs.Pej's idea of using the lyrics somewhere else as decor. That's a great idea and I might do something similar. Lol.

I love instrumental versions of popular songs as processionals. I am doing that myself. I personally feel like with lyrics it can be distracting. I know I would be singing to myself while walking down the aisle and probably mouthing the words. Plus there's just a feeling with instrumental covers that I love for here.

I think it's ok to have lyrics for the Processional as long as your DJ or whoever is operating the music can fade it out.

I'm leaning towards 'Come Away With Me' by Norah Jones as mine, and our DJ can fade it out.

I personally prefer songs without lyrics, but I looked up the original of the instrumentals you posted, and they're wonderful too! So as many awesome ladies on WW have told me: Choose whatever you want that makes you happy Smiley smile)) !

We used the Lyric version of all our songs that was played for the ceremony. The only two that I remember hearing any part of was what I walked to and the processional son and that was maybe just the first few words.
