Processional Songs: How Many?

Courtney, on March 10, 2014 at 10:37 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

How many songs are you playing for your processional? We're choosing non-traditional/modern songs for our processional. I don't know the skill level of the person who will be handling audio (it's the normal, volunteer sound-guy at my FILs church). I'm planning for (worst case scenario) each song having to be played all the way through.

I don't want to play too many songs, but also don't want to rush too many people down the isle in one song time frame.

Our Processional is: (A) Grandparents (4 sets), (B) Groom, escorted by both parents, (C) BM/GM (4 sets), (D) Me, escorted by both parents.

Any suggestions for how many songs I should play? How are your processional songs being split? What songs are you using?

I have a) my grandmother and mother, b) BM's, c) me escorted by my stepdad. Note: FH's mom is in a wheelchair and will already be in her "seat" and FH and GM are going to come in on their own prior to seating of mom and grandma. I'm using Canon in D for the sitting of mom and grandma that will (hopefully) transition into A Thousand Years by Christina Perri.

I have 4. 1) The seating of the family 2) FH wants to seat his grandma and pin her corsage on her in an honoring way) 3) Bridal Party and 4) Me & Dad.

I am going to cut the songs down... especially #2 (but luckily i'm a damn decent music editor from an old music video making hobby) because like Aftan.... songs being stopped abruptly drives me crazy!

    1. My Salvation by Gabrielle Alpin

    2. All This Time by One Republic

    3. I Do by Susie Suh

    4. ..... I'm still going back and forth on this one !

    I had three.

    1. for seating of the families I chose the classical "Canon in D"

    2. for the Bridal Party, I chose "All of Me" by John Legend.

    3. For me to walk down the aisle, we chose "Dee" by Randy Rhodes.

I think 3 to 4 will work just fine, depending on how long the song is.

For my processional I'm only using one song. Jim Brickman's Beauty and the Beast.

My processional will be simple. Just my three bridesmaids then myself with my dad.

Before the processional starts my brother will walk my mom down the aisle and stand at their seats at the front to signal that the ceremony is starting, but I don't have any special music planned for that. Just whatever song is playing from the musician as background music for the guests at the beginning.
