Processional Music

Kelly, on March 14, 2022 at 7:37 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 2 8

I feel a little silly asking this, but all of the threads I've seen about processional music discuss modern music, sometimes with lyrics. I was planning on having all Baroque music with an emphasis on the trumpet for my ceremony and processing to Rondeau et Fanfare by Mouret. Is this weird? Now that I think about it, other weddings I've been to have all had pop music for the ceremony.

No, it’s not weird. And even if it is “weird”, who cares if it’s what you and your SO want?
Although it is funny—we recently attended a wedding that had Canon in D and Here Comes the Bride for the processional and I was very surprised to hear such “classic” music, especially for a young couple! Like you, I’ve most heard pop music at ceremonies in the past few years!

    I don’t think it’s weird at all.

I don’t think that’s weird at all! If it’s music you like, that’s what you should play! The one wedding I played, the bride requested exclusively Beatles songs. Play your favorite music. Our processional will be a instrumental harp version of At Last I See the Light from the Disney movie tangled, and our recessional is an instrumental harp version of Concerning Hobbits from the Lord of the Rings. Do what makes you happy!

It's the one day you get to make it special! Not wierd at all. We're having mariachis play ceremony music and they will play Pachelbel Canon in D for the processional. Other songs will be their choosing.

Not weird at all. For all the modern music listed on the forum, we have yet to hear anything modern at a wedding ceremony. Everything has been classical at non religious ceremonies or traditional hymns for religious ones. Go with whatever you love.

None of that sounds weird. Classical music is called classical for a reason: because it has a place in history and never goes out of style. Yes, most of the weddings I've been to in recent years used more contemporary music, but I used the "most overused" processional song, Canon in D (albeit a Celtic version). I just listened to Rondeau on YouTube, and it's beautiful! I think it would make a wonderful song for walking down the aisle. It would set the mood just right, as it has tones of happiness and celebration.

Thanks! Yeah I love trumpet fanfares. They're always upbeat and fun.
