"Private User" Reviews

DowningR7, on December 31, 2016 at 2:59 PM Posted in Account Support 0 5

To trust or not to trust:

I am always one to make an opinion through my own experience, but it helps to read reviews to see what others have experienced as well. As I am scrolling through vendors on WW, I noticed there are a lot of shockingly negative reviews for vendors in my area. Mostly posted by "private users". Can I trust those reviews?

(I am fairly new to WW, so I didn't know if it was common to hide your username.)

I hope someone from WW would address this.

The vetting process at WW is pretty tight, despite what some posters here think. If a negative review is posted for a vendor, it can only be taken down if the person who posts it can't prove that they actually had a contract with the vendor. Only one review from any given IP address can be posted (so my mom can't post 40 reviews.....). We can't just get rid of reviews we don't like; we can address them, but we can't make them go away, and no amount dollars can change that.

I have a few reviews from "private users"; they simply want to be private, for whatever reason they choose. Most of them I can figure out, based on collateral, lol.... but I can totally understand why someone would want to remain private, especially if the review wasn't especially complimentary.

I'd say look at reviews as a group; if someone has 50 great ones and one bad one...well...you might take that with a grain of salt. If it's 25 shitty ones and 25 great ones?

Then you need to do more research.

I've left some reviews, and they ask at the end if you want to post under your name or anonymously. It doesn't mean that anyone has posted a fake review, just that someone chose not to have their name posted. I have chosen to do them privately because I don't want XH or his new wife finding me online, because they have a history of stalking my online presence.

Sometimes, people have legit reasons for posting things anonymously.

There are a lot of users who post reviews anonymously (they will show up either with a screen name or "Private User"), and now that I've been married myself, I do understand it! Especially if you have negative feedback to leave, you spend a lot of time with your wedding vendors during the planning process so the review feels MUCH more personal than reviewing a restaurant or something Smiley smile

If it's a negative review and still up it's probably legit. Vendors can dispute reviews on WW, and one of the reasons is if they don't think they worked with that client. All the reviewer has to do to prove to WW that they are a legitimate client is send us a copy of their contract signed by both parties or a proof of payment, then the review will stay up.

If you do see something fishy or a bizarre pattern emerging with reviews in your area, definitely flag it to our attention either by flagging their profile or by emailing support@weddingwire.com and we can take an extra look!
