Price for a wedding

Ok so I set up a budget of $20,000 for mine and FH wedding but his grandmother told that it’s way too much and that even $10,000 was too much. Me and FH are trying to save and only use our own money so we can have a nice medium sized wedding but is our budget too much?

$10K is a small budget FYI, but will be enough for a nice wedding. I have estimated (including tax and gratuity) that my fiance and I can have 35-40 people for $****. This does mean some compromises, but includes open bar, lots of food, a DJ, and a great photographer.

If you're paying out-of-pocket, decide how much you can afford and whether your ideal wedding is worth it vs. buying a home/paying off loans.

EDIT: Also factor in taxes, gratuity, alterations, etc when making your budget. It's a pain in the neck, but these things add up quickly.

Honestly no that budget is not too much. To me at least. We are having a 50 person wedding for $10,250 but that's just for our all inclusive package with our venue. It doesn't include all the extras such as my dress which was a little over $1700 and we had to pay for our own engagement photos as well as anything else the package does not include. So I think that's pretty reasonable. Stuff adds up quickly and it all depends on where you are and how many people you are having because those two factors increase wedding costs.

Hi Samantha, I echo what a lot of the other ladies have said about depends on venue, guest count and location. To give perpective, for a Westchester, NY wedding our wedding budget will exceed $60,000 for 150 guests at a historic mansion in Hudson Valley. I thought I could do it for $40,000 and it was damn near impossible with our style and guest count. Other bridal events (Shower, bachelorette trip, rehearsal dinner additional $5,000) and honeymoon ($10,000) is not even included in that number. I would reach out to vendors to get pricing in your state, city and town and take it from there. Our current budget includes the following:

    Venue for ceremony/reception
Bridal gownGroom’s suitWedding RingsFloristSignage StationaryPhotographyVideography DJTransportation HairMakeupWedding Favors
We are thinking about adding ceremony musicians and additional shooters (photo and video) after cutting them out of our budget initially (additional $3,000 or so). Now that we postponed another 15 months we may add these items back. Overall, realistically for a NY wedding will probably be all in closer to $80,000.

Since you and your FH will be spending for it, all that matters is what you both feel is a comfortable budget. As a general etiquette rule, finances and budget is best kept confidential and the business only of those involved.

It all depends on your wants & needs for your wedding, but I can see his grandmother meant well. Sometimes they don't want you to overspend on something. You have until 2022 so you have plenty of time to save, but figure out what you truly want & what you can do without. Do a lot of research. Ours is going to be well under $5,000 because we're choosing not to splurge on the wedding itself & are spending more on the honeymoon. We also have family who are willing to help us if need be, but it's pretty much going to be our own funds. There's ways to hold an affordable wedding, if that's what you choose, but nothing wrong with going as big as you can according to your budget. Remember, it's you guys' day & what you two want is what matters.

If they’re not paying, it’s not their business 💁🏼‍♀️

Depends on how many people are you inviting and what kind of wedding you want to have. If you are having about 100-120 people, $20,000 is definitely not too much.

Agree with everyone else that it really depends on your guest list and where you are. My wedding is next month, with a guest list around 200 and our total cost will be around $8000. I did a ton of DIY, and found a venue that let us bring our own food not catered.

    Hi..
Congratulations...well we set a budget so we thought and my venue and photography exceeded that budget alone. Just research thoroughly of what you really want. Or like me just threw the budget out the window cause i did not abide by it 😆
