Premium bar package or more guest?

FH and I previously decided to host an open bar for our reception and together we picked the third package. He recently changed his mind and said that he wants to picked a cheaper package. He wants to add an extra 20 people to the guest list. I want to compromise but I also want our guest to enjoy themselves. I’m not much of a drinker so I could really use some help. As a guest what package would you be satisfied with? Can you taste the difference in brands? I don’t want to be given the side eye at our wedding because someone can’t have a Jack w/ Coke.

We have so much done that i don’t think it’s possible to add more guest. I’ve already sent out STD’s and have our invitations ordered. We’ve added late night snacks and a few other perks. Hopefully My FH will understand that we should move forward with our original plan. Especially after I express my concerns about the amount of work and money that it will take to add more guest.

I've been to weddings in every range, just beer, just beer and wine, premium bar, bar where a bunch of random liquor and mixers were bought, if you want to drink you'll find a way to do it. I think 2 would be perfectly fine. But ultimately if you don't want the extra people then keep 3.

I completely agree with this statement. Enjoy your wedding and try to think less of others opinions. If your choices make you happy and you are still appreciating your guests well, that's what matters. People matter more than premium alcohol so if you can afford to add them, you should.

Ps. I never get offended at an open bar. It's free! I know alcohol can add a lot of $$ to an event so I just appreciate what's available. Best wishes!

I would stick with the package you selected, at the least number 2. I don't think people will notice if its in mixed drinks but if you up your guest list then ALL of your other pricing will be raised as well. It won't only be about the alcohol. If he REALLY wants to invited these people then go with the option 2 and invited them. Maybe a some will decline and then you might be able to go back to option 3. I would just try and talk him out of that.

I'd stick with your current plans. There's no need to max out the venue capacity and I doubt you will even know those distant relatives are present so why invite them?

I think if you are going to offer hard liquor, you have to offer things people will drink. Cheap liquor gives really bad hangovers, and I don't want to do that to my guests.

I think 2 is fine, 3 is better. I'm a whiskey drinker, though and the selection is much better in package 3. It would concern me that my FH would want to spend money we had potentially saved on people we didn't *need* to be there. That is how you get to be over budget. I'm also aiming for under my venue maximum, mostly because it will be more comfortable and easier to arrange everything. Those premium touches are nice, and they are honestly what people will remember.

Either will be fine, but looking at those prices, switching won't cover the cost of 20 more people, so I hope FH has a plan for where the additional money is coming from. Good luck!

I wouldn't be looking to max out the venue space. What venues say their rooms hold does not mean it holds them comfortably. Just something to consider. As for the bar packages, as long as you have an open bar I think you're fine.

Thanks everyone. We’ve both decided that we’re not going to change anything about our day. We’re going to stick with our current guest list and liquor package.

If you really want to add them then go with 2 or 3
