Prelude Music vs. Cocktail Hour Music

Bryannah, on February 25, 2020 at 12:57 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 2

Hi, so FH and I are trying to decide on what music to play during the prelude of our wedding. Just a bit of background, our wedding, although elegant/formal, has a sub-theme of sci-fi/action movies. I have created an hour long playlist of movie and TV show theme songs to play during cocktail hour. It will really set the mood perfectly, and allow our guests to take part in the goofy movie prop photo booth stations we are setting up (Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Avengers themed). So I guess my real question is, would you play the same playlist as the prelude while guests are entering before the ceremony, or should I find another option and save that as a fun surprise? All music is instrumental, I'll list it below. (We are saving The Star Wars Theme as our reception entrance song!)

Harry Potter Main Theme

The Avengers Theme

Jurassic Park Theme

Mission Impossible Theme

Back To The Future Theme

Stranger Things Theme

The Walking Dead Theme

Game of Thrones Theme

Ghostbusters Theme

Lord of The Rings - The Fellowship

Star Trek Main Theme

Lost In Space Theme

Superman Theme

James Bond Theme

Concerning Hobbits

Spiderman 2 Main Title

The Original Batman Theme

It's up to you, although personally, I'd make the music different--it's just that there so many Star Wars soundtracks to choose from!

I'm having a Star Wars-themed wedding, so for my prelude, I'm having a pianist and violinist play the various love themes from the Star Wars films, plus Binary Sunset.

For cocktail hour (which is in a different venue), I'm having my DJ play "Cantina Band" and songs in pop culture that are Star Wars-themed, like Weird Al or Bad Lip Reading.

Then for dinner, the DJ will play a mix of Star Wars film tracks.

Hey Bryannah Smiley smile Personally, I think it would be ok to use it for both. During the prelude, guests may notice the music more as they will be sitting there in silence, waiting for the wedding to begin. At the cocktail hour they may be too busy chatting and mingling, the noise levels will be higher, so they may not notice it as much. Does this make sense?!
