Pre-set salad?

Cherokee, on October 10, 2016 at 1:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

My caterer told us that our salad will be pre-set on the tables before the guests enter the ballroom from the cocktail hour. I am fine with this except we got a timeline from our band and it doesn't look like we will actually be seated for the salad for 30 min. Is this weird? They will be seated for our entrance and first dance so if there is a salad in front of them I would think they would start eating right? But the blessing (jewish wedding) is not until after the first dance and then a 15 min dance set. I guess It just sounds like a confusing timeline to me?

The last wedding I went to was like this and it was fine. Most ate the salad but it didn't seem to affect anything.

I would worry about the salad getting soggy

I would probably start eating it right away because if you put food in front of me I can't help it. Will there be dressing on the table or will the salad already be dressed? Either way I don't think it will get soggy that fast.

Our caterer mentioned this to us as well. We haven't finalized anything yet, but I don't quite know how I feel about it.

I think that's pretty common. If they choose to eat the salad before the blessing to me it's no different then eating at cocktail hour.

Maybe ask if dressing can be on the side.

Generally the dressing is on the side, and this is VERY common with high-end caterers. It allows for a better flow to the evening, and plus, people calm down once they have SOME food in front of them.

Any event I've ever been to in the mid to high range, but not top tier black tie, had the salads out.

It usually cost more to pass salad out after people are seated

Ok I think the dressing will be on the salad. But 30 min should not be a big deal right ? And if they are seated for first dance and start eating then whatever no big deal .
