Potato Bar

Hey so my fiance and I have been debating about food options for our wedding. Our most recent idea is a potato bar. Do you think that would be a good idea. Has anyone else done this, if so about how much does this normally cost?

Ughhn I tried to comment again but now I don’t see it, so I’ll write again - sorry if you get a double post!

I agree with this maybe being more of a southern thing, and thats why it might be weird for some. Texas here, so this is something that is not weird at all. I think as long as you have lots of variety, this is an awesome idea. My wedding is more on the formal side and our meal will be served, but for a casual wedding, I think this sounds fun! I think all that you mentioned were good toppings, but I think adding brisket, pulled pork, and chili are all great ideas. I also think veggies and different chesses should be added to give lots of variety. I recommend looking at McAlisters (or othere similar restaurants) that have good menu ideas for potatoes.

I’ve never had them as just a main dish. I see you stated it’s popular where you are. Could something else be offered w/ them? Just in case some ppl didn’t want them..

My fiancé would love it. He loves potatoes and often can't eat what's served at weddings.

I personally despise baked potatoes, but I know I'm basically a weirdo for it lol. I think many people would enjoy a loaded baked potato bar, if your wedding is very casual! It's also nice that it is gluten free (right?) and easy to make vegetarian. I would seriously consider adding at least salad to the side, to help freshen it up and make it feel more like a full meal.

Potato bars are great, but not appropriate as an entree, even in the south. What if someone doesn't like potatoes, will you just serve them toppings?

It's been five years and the biggest thing I remember from one of my best friends' wedding is that mashed potato bar Smiley laugh

I used to love potatoes, but have been put on a very low carb diet by my doc. This is not optional for me. I think that perhaps if I were your guest, I wouldn't have an option for dinner?
