Postponing the wedding. (venting a little)

I'm devastated. We're most likely canceling the wedding due to funding. Life just keeps hitting us hard and we're not going to be able to afford it right now. One thing after another!!! I mean really, flat tire AND a new car battery in one week? FMIL has generously offered to help us move to Florida...
I'm devastated. We're most likely canceling the wedding due to funding. Life just keeps hitting us hard and we're not going to be able to afford it right now. One thing after another!!! I mean really, flat tire AND a new car battery in one week? FMIL has generously offered to help us move to Florida so we may be taking an entirely different turn on life, which is exciting... yet I'm so sad I won't be having the traditional wedding. But what do I send to guests? We sent our save the dates out, now I'm worried what guests will think. Go figure I have a pile of invitations sitting here. And what do I say to vendors? Will they return deposits for cancellations or no? I think this is more stressful than planning the wedding! Smiley sad
Sorry just needed to vent a little.

How expensive is your wedding and when were you planning to have it? A flat tire and car battery are not things that should result in a cancelled wedding if you’ve already put deposits for all your vendors and venue. You will end up losing more money by cancelling. I would recommend putting the car battery and tire on credit for now and saving your money to pay things off. My FH and I are in the process of buying a home and money is tight. I’ve gone through our possessions and listed some things we don’t need or want on eBay. Since December 28th I have sold $1,342.88 worth of items on eBay. Things I sold include old brand name clothing (express, Lularoe), textbooks, magic cards, etc. We are using this money to help ease the financial stress with closing costs and it’s giving my FH the ability to continue to save for our wedding. You could even look into a flea market table. Things you wouldn’t think would sell, usually do. I mean we had magic cards from a decade ago that we’ve never used. One card sold for $50. It’s insane what people would buy and worth looking into!

I have a friend that had to suddenly elope a few years ago due to insurance stuff. For their one year, they did a full wedding (ie vow renewal) with a reception. She ended up still getting the wedding of her dreams and was over the moon.

I feel your pain. I just had surgery this month (which was about 30% more than what they quoted me-I didn't budget for that) and needed a new car battery.

We changed our plans in December and were able to get our deposit back from our venue and a smaller package from our photographer. Definitely read your contracts to see if that's an option!

Only you know how much of the wedding has already been paid for, how much money you will lose by cancelling, and so on.

But I would take a serious look at whether you can still have a much-pared-down version of the wedding, so you aren't completely losing your deposit money. Is that possible?
