Postponing - 2020 Ceremony & 2021 Reception

Nicole, on April 16, 2020 at 3:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 2

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are high school sweethearts and have been together for 8 years. We were engaged last year, and planned to get married on June 20, 2020. Unfortunately, it is looking like even if the social distancing orders are lifted by then, it will not be feasible to have the wedding as planned. My dress has been delayed, our rings have been delayed, some of my bridesmaids hadn’t ordered their dresses and delivery dates are now extended into July, and the guys haven’t even looked at tuxes yet. After waiting 8 years, I don’t want to wait even longer to get married and start a family. After a lot of consideration, we have decided to postpone the reception until June 26, 2021 but still get married on June 20, 2020 as planned. If the outbreak is contained by then, we would like to still have a small celebration on June 20th with our family and friends.

Those of you who are still planning to get married on your original date and postpone the reception, how are you celebrating? Are you still going to have a ceremony in 2021? I’m interested to hear everyone’s plans during this unprecedented time! Sending well wishes and love to you all! 💕

We are looking at having an intimate ceremony with just our family and keep everyone looped in on Zoom or some other streaming service. We still want to have a "reception" so we are thinking to have dinner, cake, and our first dance as well. We're hoping to have an anniversary party next year with everyone gathered as a less formal version of our reception but we haven't decided fully on that.

    Hi Nicole,

I'm so sorry your plans have changed! I personally love the idea of having a small wedding on your original date, with a larger receptions to follow in a few months or even next year.

At your reception, you can incorporate photos from your big day! Your guests will love all of the little touches.

Sending lots of love your way and wishing you all of the best!

    Smiley heart
