postponed wedding fees

Sabon, on May 19, 2020 at 5:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

Hi everyone!!

We have decided to postpone our July 25, 2020 until next July. All of my vendors were very accommodating except one. I just got hit with a "rescheduling fee" of $1,400.00!!! (food vendor)

There is nothing in the contract that mentioned any rescheduling or cancellation costs...

The crazy part is that if my wedding was a month sooner the fee would be cut in half... it makes no sense because the original contract didn't have any date restrictions that if I was married in Spring vs. Summer somehow my food would be cheaper, so I don't know why or how they think they can do this to people.

I understand that we're all in a tough position but wow...

I wanted to see if anyone else had issues with their vendors and how/if they were able to resolve these issues.

Hmm seems odd to me that they can charge a fee if it was never in the contract.

My venue tried to charge me almost 10k for postponing my 5/2/20 wedding after THEY called me to recommend I postpone it and never mentioned the fee before they emailed an updated contract with our new date to me. I fought it and won bc they ended up having to temporarily close anyway. I think what my venue did and what your vendor is trying is unethical ... especially during a time that is a considered in most contacts as an Act of God. Are they even going to be open in July?

    Agreed!!

They claim that everything will be back and running in June ..but I am waiting to see what the Governor of IL does-- if he extends reopening so then I will have another point of argument against a fee.

    Thank you for the information!!

In reality, cost go up yearly at venues. Also in Illinois here and there’s no way you could have a wedding in Chicago area with more than 10 people in July of this year. I would push them and ask what this cost is related to and what the cancellation fee would be? Have they published their cost for next year and is it different than yours currently?

    I agree!

Even if we have us our parents and siblings we're already at 8 people!

To cancel they claim they would get to keep my $11,000 deposit

They haven't posted costs for next year, but its not the venue, we had to use an outside caterer, the venue didn't give us a hard time about rescheduling..

Nobody did actually except the food.

And I understand maybe a REASONABLE rescheduling fee but $1400 is nuts.
