Post wedding celebration of marriage dinner

Hi! My parents are throwing us a dinner to include my extended family and their friends this weekend—our wedding was a small (20 person) destination wedding. I stupidly hadn’t considered what to wear. My cousin wants me to wear my gown. While wearing the gown is fun, it feels weird for a more casual event. And I won’t be as glammed up with hair/makeup as I was on my wedding day. I’m not even sure it will fit the same since I gained about 10 lbs on our honeymoon! What do you think? I just think the magic can’t be recreated. I also don’t have time to shop and the only other thing I could wear is a skirt and casual blouse or long floral maxi dress. Should I wear the gown? Attempt to buy something else online?

I would buy something else. I agree its kind of weird to rock "The" dress again.

I'd wear something else. Either the maxi dress or something you find online.

I'm sure you have something that would be appropriate and look great on you if you're not feeling wearing the dress again. I think the maxi dress sounds perfect!

I would probably buy another dress. Perhaps a lighter colored (white or a pastel) floral sundress? That way you could wear it again? We got married in a church and couldn't have alcohol so my husbands family did an after party later that evening with champagne and I changed. I wore a navy blue floral print off the shoulder dress but I kept the accessories and hair and makeup. So maybe that could be an option? Just do similar hair and makeup and reuse any jewelry?

Actually I missed the part where you said you had a floral maxi dress and that's totally what I was thinking. Sorry I double posted, I don't know how to edit my comments!

A floral maxi dress would be awesome! I agree, the dress had a time and place and this seems to be more casual. Be comfortable! The stress is over.

I'd wear something else, while your dress is really special, I agree you cant "recreate the magic" with it. Try to amazon prime something that way you can at least guarantee it will get to you on time.

Thanks everyone for the input—and for confirming my thoughts. It would feel kind of odd to just show up to this restaurant in my gown...doing my own hair and makeup and putting it on like I would any other outfit!

Yeah... no to the dress. Unless you really wanted to wear it again, but it sounds like you dont. Id wear the long floral maxi dress.

I ordered a few in Nordstrom and expedited shipping. We’ll see—these are the ones I ordered. The bright floral one is the one I already have.
