Post Covid Reception Only Party

Kimberly, on October 20, 2021 at 2:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Hello everybody!
My husband and I got engaged in April 2020, and planned our wedding for April 2021. A few months before our wedding, our state still had a lot of mandates in place so we decided to postpone our big reception until April 2022 so we could have our dream wedding, but we still got married in a super intimate ceremony on our original wedding weekend. Now we’re at the point where we’re kind of over it and don’t want to drop all the money to throw a 2.0 wedding.. we considered cancelling and calling it a loss, but we didn’t do any of our special dances and and stuff and we still want to be able to celebrate with all of our loved ones and use all of the stuff we purchased and I created. Our venue will let us throw a “party” and our original down payment covers that so it will cut our costs substantially.
Has anybody done anything like this? I’m thinking I’ll have the invitations say “to celebrate the marriage of” or something along those lines? We’ll do a 30 minute mingle in place of cocktail hour then head into the festivities like a normal reception I think, unless anybody has any other suggestions?

My best friend did this and it was just like going to a reception. It was a lot of fun and it let all of us that missed out on her ceremony the opportunity to celebrate with her and her husband.

My husband and I recently did this on 10/2! Our invitations said "please join us in a celebration of our marriage". I didn't wear my big wedding dress for our minimony and we didn't use our bridal party so we incorporated that for our reception. I wore my big dress, & our bridal party took bridal portraits before the reception together. Overall the night was amazinggggg.

I was at the point where I wanted to cancel and everything as well since we were already married and time had passed. But I am so happy we decided to go forward with it. Trust me it'll all be worth it. Here are a few pics from ours.Post Covid Reception Only Party 1

I LOVE this. I also skipped my big dress and have since lost 50+ pounds and was able to exchange it for a smaller size. So you just did bridal portraits with your wedding party as if it was after a ceremony? I was kind of wondering about that and if it would be weird because we aren’t doing the ceremony. But a couple of their dresses have been purchased and hair and makeup was booked before we postponed.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it as a guest! We were a little concerned about the experience without the ceremony!

It honestly didn’t even feel like we missed anything. She had like a cocktail hour and they were doing pictures, so it really felt like we were just coming into a reception.

Thank you ❤️ I lost 40lbs so I had to get my dress taken in 2 sizes but it worked perfectly. & yes, they already all had their dresses and I already purchased all of their shoes so we didn't want them to go to waste. We got ready together - my husband and his groomsmen used our basement and my bridal party used our upstairs. We all went to the location for the bridal portraits together then went back to my house and pregamed before the reception. My husband and I purchased transportation so our bridal party rode together in a sprinter and my husband and I had a separate car! The bridal party was announced walking into the reception, then my husband and I were as well!
