So we definitely want to have a rehearsal the day before for our wedding party so everyone feels comfortable day of. But the problem is we can't afford to pay for a rehearsal dinner afterwards. Yes, the grooms parents generally pay for this but they have already given us a good amount of money for the wedding because my parents couldn't. So we can't ask them for even more money. We thought about having a pitch in at our house after but we live 45 minutes away from the church so logistically that will not work. Is it terrible to not have a dinner afterwards?! Help!

So you have someone paying for most of your wedding and you are unable to pay to feed your closest friends and families for rehearsal dinner? Find something in the area and feed these people.

I don't think a rehearsal dinner is required. I've been a bridesmaid a couple times where there was no rehearsal dinner provided.

Most people don't need a rehearsal, but if you have one you have to feed people, and that doesn't include a 'pitch in', if that's a potluck. Pizza and beer is just fine and you provide it.

That is rude Cats. There has to be something, and if this is something you didn't figure into the budget, you skip it.

A "pitch in"? No. It is your responsibility to provide food for the rehearsal dinner, not your VIP's responsibility.

Order pizzas to the church hall or have subs or panera bread brought in. There has got to be a way to feed people who come to a rehearsal.

MLC, I have a feeling your circle is just made up of rude people.

We did a local pizza place and it was fairly cheap!

Deli sandwiches might work? Something you can pick up on your way there and keep in a cooler.

Well Vanessa, thanks for "giving me a reality check in adulthood". I have been a single mother for 7 years, work a full time job, am finishing up my 4 year degree, have a house (that I bought), and a dog...oh an a fiancé that is a pilot so he's gone half of the month. But thanks for your awakening.

It doesn't have to be a "ncer" pizza place. Just not a "pitch in" which sounds like potluck.

Brittany, we all have struggles, you asked for opinions and got them.

You definitely have to feed people after a rehearsal, so if there is just no way you can possibly do it (even cheap pizza and beer is fine), then just skip the rehearsal. Honestly, weddings are not rocket science.

Erica, you are full of beans.

It's your wedding, but you involve others and then you are HOSTS.

I don't care that Richard's post was flagged. I'm still hitting the like button.

Wow Britney. I was a single mom of 2 for 12 years and own 2 house and yet I still managed to have a rehearsal dinner for our nearest and dearest.

Maybe you need to check your priorities

If you have a rehearsal then you need to feed your guests. There is honestly nothing worse.. rehearsals are for you and for you only, none of your wedding party cares to practice and this is your day you want to turn out perfect (it will regardless)

To be honest I think the whole point of rehearsal should be to thank your wedding party and family for everything they have done and helped with, the actual practicing doesn't take long and can easily be figured day off.

Having said that, no need for anything crazy or fancy. Get catered food if your not close to a lot of places, they can deliver it to the church when you guys finish or order pizza/wings... my SIL is religious and had her rehearsal dinner in the church and had some pasta/salads/pop

Being an adult doesn't obviously mean you know the proper thing to do hosting wise.

Order a sandwich platter or pizza at the church and eat in the fellowship hall.

I'm doing a destination-ish wedding. We are having a rehearsal at our venue then catered Italian at our beach house. With food & alcohol for like 60 people, it's only costing us $1000 with tax and tip. We are splitting it 3 ways.
