Possible Dress Regret

Sheena, on June 22, 2017 at 6:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Has anyone ever had somewhat of a dress regret? Don't get me wrong I do love the dress I bought. But I had my heart set on a blush pink dress and the one I ended up purchasing is ivory. Just purchased it in April but as I see pictures of blush pink ones I get sad because mine is not. My plan is to dye all the tulle underneath blush pink but I'm scared that won't still won't be enough. Would love anyone's thoughts on if they've had any sort of experience where they bought a dress later wishing they kept looking for that one characteristic they really wanted.

I wanted ivory and ended up with an ivory lace over light gold and I didn't know I could be so in love. Things don't always go to plan. Do you already have your dress? Have you talked to a professional about dying it? Sometimes if you don't physically have the dress in your hands you forget how much you love it.

I bought the dress I thought I'd always want.. and then ended up being sad that it wasn't giving me the right feeling. I ended up with the opposite of what I thought I'd get and absolutely love it. Dont settle, it's your one day to be in exactly what you love.

I was having a little dress regret until my dress came in. Just seeing the dress and not even on me made me so happy! I absolutely adore my dress it's nothing like I thought I would be! It's lace and has pockets! And I normally would never wear a dress with pockets but I fell in love with it. I'm in love with it still! And now that it is "hiding" at my sisters I can't wait to get fitted and wear it on my big day!

I have a dress regret when I am looking at all the styles, especially the styles that don't fit my body well. Then I put mine on and I really do love it and how I feel in it.

I do love the dress itself. It's absolutely gorgeous. It was so comfortable, it has the lace and the tulle that I wanted. The only thing that's getting to me is the color. I'm definitely going to ask my alterations gal about dying the tulle underneath.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one out there feeling this way or has felt this way. Definitely takes some of the doubt out of my mind. Thanks ladies!!

I struggled with "dress regret" a little bit. When I went dress shopping in March, every dress I tried on was moscato (my favorite gown color at the time). The very last dress I tried on was ivory, and I'd only selected it because the fabric was really cool. My mother and the associate helping us both LOVED the ivory dress. I wasn't so sure, but decided to trust their judgment. It ate at me for a solid month! Then I started looking at photos of me trying on the other dresses and the photo of me in the dress I purchased and began to realize that their advice saved me! The ivory gown was and is the PERFECT one for me. Now, less than 4 weeks from my wedding, I have zero "dress regret" and couldn't be happier!

I know it's different for everyone, and I wish you the best of luck with it all!

I would be afraid the dye would hurt your material of your? dress and make it fragile and it may tear easily

I bought by Stella york 6432 in all white but now I'm kind of thinking that I should be gone with ivory underneath and white over top so that the lace would pop more but I wanted traditional and I think looking back at pictures in the future, I'll be happy with my decision even though I'm having second thoughts now.

I definitely did. I think it's very common for various reasons. I bought a gown from Davids bridal, had major regret, then exchanged it for another one. But since I took the plunge and bought one there, I couldn't get any type of refund to look at gowns at any other shops. I wish I had looked at more places before I said yes to anything, because there were a lot of other gowns I wanted to look at. I was feeling regret that I didn't get a "nicer" dress, like a higher quality gown. And, just like you OP, I also wanted a blush gown so that was always a regret in my mind, especially because some of the designers I did not get to try on had blush gowns. In the end, though, I do love my dress. It made me feel beautiful, and that was enough for me. Though it didn't check off every single box I had in mind, I still love it and I still had an amazing wedding day. The dress doesn't dictate if your wedding day will be beautiful, amazing, and memorable.

Yes! I tried on my dress in blush and ordered it in white. I was really sad when it came in and regretted not getting the pink. At my fitting on Wednesday, they had me put the pink one back on. i didn't love it anymore! Seeing the pink next to my beautiful white dress made it look really "old" and "muted", and it made me feel so much better that I made the right choice.

Honestly I felt the same way and it never went away. Give it a month or so and then try it back on and see how you feel. If you are still feeling regret look into other options. There is nothing worse then the feeling I get looking back knowing I hate my dress and almost every photo because of it.

IF (big IF) the fabric underneath is suitable to be dyed and it won't damage the dress: my dress is white satin, then blush chiffon, white lace, white tulle x2, and this is the color it came out.

Just for reference of how much it shows!

That being said, I think you should think long and hard about it, I keep having moments of dress regret then remembering I love it and nothing else came close!

You ladies are all so wonderful and helpful! My dress has not come in yet. So I haven't had it on since I bought it. I'm hoping all the doubt will go away once it comes back in and I can put it on again. In my mind it truly is a beautiful dress and I love the detail on it. The material is Tulle, Dotted Netting, Horsehair, Poly Lining. It's Watters: WTOO, Warren Style 17705. I did feel beautiful in it and the way it moved so easily when I walked was like I didn't even have a big ole puffy dress on. I'm also wondering instead of dyeing the tulle maybe adding a a crinoline layer or petticoat layer of pink underneath for that special off the wall pop of color. I'm not your average typical bride. I definitely want something different that makes people say Wow! and laugh at the off the wall addition that fits my personality at the same time.

I picked my dress solely on it's color. I knew I'd think about it constantly if I didn't get it. it's gorgeous but the color makes it.

I 100% had dress regret. I had my heart set on an illusion top with little flowers, but I tried on a totally different dress and loved it. Once it came in, and I looked at it for a few weeks I started to have doubts.

Now I'm back to being in love with my dress. I just think all my stress needed an outlet and unfortunately it landed on the dress. Try to stay calm, stop looking at other dresses, and remember why you love yours!

I'm a second dress bride. And even after getting my second dress I was starting to regret getting in ivory instead of white. But I know I love it, and you will look pretty on your day of no matter what color!

I think it is just stress! I had some dress doubts too but I think its just that the decision is built up as a huge decision and you only get one dress and it is a lot of pressure. Take some time and you will love it! Do you have a picture of yourself in it? Looking at the pictures of myself really helped me, not because I saw how great I looked in it but because I saw how happy I looked.

Things don't go as planned sometimes. I was dead set on a white dress but ended up with lavender... I was also dead set on a mermaid but got an a-line. It happens; all that matters is you love the dress you got. Wait until you get it, try it on again, and see what happens! If you still regret it after that then start thinking of ways to either change it or get a new one, if in budget!

ETA- just saw your dress and it's amazing! I think it's a statement dress all by itself and doesn't really need color!

    *Waves hands*

I am a 2 dress bride! I bought my first dress and then started having second thoughts about it and couldn't stop thinking about my "dream" dress. I went to try the dream dress on, hoping I would hate it, but of course I didn't. LOL.

I think it's common to have some sort of regret or what if. I mean, there are SO many styles/options to chose from. Especially if you order a while out from your wedding.
