Poor etiquette to cash check before wedding?

Allison, on July 11, 2016 at 5:10 PM

I've received a couple cards with checks in them already, I plan on waiting until after the wedding to cash them as to not seem greedy, but they would be helpful for a bit of extra money so close to my wedding. So question, better to wait? Or no big deal as they sent them early?

I would cash them. I would expect the check to be cashed before the wedding if I sent it to you early.

I agree with cashing it before and sending a thank you note! It's much easier for people's finances when they don't have to keep remembering that outstanding check!

No, cash it and send out a thank you immediately. It helps people keep track of their money and also its one less thank you to send after the wedding.

I'd much prefer you to cash my check asap as I try to balance my checkbook!

Unless it's post-dated sooner than later. Major pet peeve when someone holds a check.

I would cash it now and send a thank you note immediately. It kind of sucks when people hold on to my checks for a long period of time.

I would put a thank you in the mail and then cash them.

The only reason I can think for a couple to not cash the check now would be the requirement to return the gift should the wedding not occur. Not saying your wedding won't happen, I'm sure it will. Just something for every bride and groom to be aware of.

I'd cash it. Especially if you're going on your honeymoon right away.

Cash it-- if your wedding is this weekend, no one has time to peek at her bank account, anyway- banks do not move that fast!

I would wait! I think the same rule applies as gifts presented early to wait until after the wedding and immediately send a thank you.

I would cash it just because I personally hate sitting on checks. I would also love some extra money before the wedding.

Definitely cash it now, but make sure you send out the thank you note immediately. I hate it when I write a check and people hold onto it. It's annoying. I want to see if out of my bank balance.
