Poll: Daytime versus Nightime Wedding/Reception

Would you rather to go a wedding/reception (same venue) on a Saturday from 11:30 - 5pm or 5 to 10:30pm? I've only gone to one daytime wedding and it wasn't that great, that's probably why I always think early evening to evening are better.

I thought of something else not mentioned already that maybe an important factor.

I was a BM for a daytime wedding before and we had to get up at 4:30AM in order to get all of our hair and makeup done. We also had to take pictures before the ceremony. By the time the reception came around, I was pooped out. I say this now in case you are not a morning person like me and may want a full night sleep then the night time wedding is a better option.

I'm having mine from 11:30-5:00 pm because of one reason: money! The venue price was a 3500 difference. But the room/setting is dark, so I think people will still dance if we have alcohol!

I prefer evening weddings. We are doing a afternoon wedding but it depends on what kind of reception you are going for. If our guest list was bigger and were going all out we would have had an evening wedding.

All weddings are beautiful, regardless of the time of day. However, evening receptions just seem to take it up a notch as far as the party experience is concerned. It may have something to do with drinking -- people tend to feel less restricted about their alcohol intake if they're drinking after 5:00 PM. More alcohol equals less inhibition equals more fun.

I've been to a daytime wedding (It was fun, but the only dancing they had was Texan line dancing) and a couple of night weddings. I've had some night weddings that are just as dead as day weddings, and most the time it's dead because the bride and groom aren't on the dance floor.

My ceremony will begin at 11:30am and my reception will be 1:00pm-5:00pm. I would have preferred a night time wedding, but the cost at the venue I was in love with was a little bit over double the price I got for the morning.

I've been to a ton of day and night weddings and I don't think the time of the day will make your wedding boring and danceless or exciting and fun. I spoke with a DJ when I explained my concerns over how they treat day vs. night and he said it's no different. It's what the couple wants and if they want a intense party, it's the job of the DJ to give that feel out and it will happen.

I liked the daytime for me after thinking about it because it gave us a lot of extra time at night to celebrate with everyone and do an after reception party Smiley smile

I prefer night weddings but now that I've gone thru the process and spent way too much money- if I could go back, I would do a Sunday brunch wedding.

I'm stalking the comments here because I need answers for this too! We are planning kind of a Cake & Punch reception with hors d'oeuvres, but I dpn't know if we should do it in the middle of the day or later at night. I've mostly been to evening weddings, and the receptions are so fun with dancing and whatnot. I'm not sure the vibe is the same with afternoon receptions.

We're having Sunday brunch after our 10am ceremony. I have no doubt people will enjoy theirselves. We're splurging on a fabulous dj to be sure the party is hoppin!
