Plus size corset for under gown

Kat-Theis2B, on March 27, 2013 at 11:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

Do any of you know where I can find a really solid corset to wear under the gown? I haven't bought the dress, but want to have it so I can wear it when I try on the dresses. I want something that will be strong and supportive. I need it to smooth out the belly, cinch in the waist and support my large and heavy breasts. Don't know where I can find one in my size (16/18). I'm a 42 C.

Maybe Lane Bryant?? I buy their bras but never had a need for a corset so I never paid attention if they carry them or not.

Check Fredericks of Hollywood, I got all my bra for my dress and bridal robe from there.

A good corset is usually pretty expensive. I wouldn't bother with it for dress shopping. Especially if you end up having a dress that is structured so that you won't wear a corset underneath it, it's just going to be a waste.

I got a corset at Frederick's of Hollywood for my boudoir shoot. I'm a 36D, and it was about $65. You might want to try websites that cater to Renaissance Festival guests. I got a great Ren Fest costume through an ebay retailer and I know she sold some heavy-duty corsets, as well. Again, not cheap, but might be worth a shot.

From one busty bride to another:

    1. Lots of bridal salons carry undergarments.

    2. This is the one the bridal salon put me in when I ordered the dress. Gown after gown, the thing held up nicely (I'm a 42 DDD)...and the cup size in the salon was off (I think they put me in a 42 C actually, since it's all they had). I had the same one in high school for prom too, and my sister has the same style now. I recommend it.

    3. Here's the one I actually bought, because it came in a bigger size:

I like BN shipping charges better than Hips & Curves, though they have many of the same products. I have ordered from H&C before, so it's really up to you to compare prices.

PS - Lane Bryant doesn't have any good bustiers...only strapless bras and I hate them. Now, their full-coverage bras are another story completely..that's all I wear. Smiley smile

and I agree with Mrs. S...don't bother with a corset because they cost over $100 usually. One of the bustier styles above should fit your needs.

I also forgot...I'm a street size 16 or 18 usually...depending on the cut of the clothes (I need a little more room in the hips and bust).

Depending on the style of your dress, I wouldn't bother with an actual corset. I have one...for nerd related reasons (Ren Faire/cosplay), and they not only cinch your waist but they'll really push your bubbies up and that sort of support isn't really bridal if you have more ample girls. Also if your dress is made of thinner material and doesn't have some serious lining or structure in the bodice the lines of the corset will show through where the ties and boning are so it won't be smooth.

I'm a size 16 and I got my longline strapless bra with wire from David's Bridal. I'm a 38 D (was a DD) and it totally is supportive and doesn't move. It also sucks in my tummy. Otherwise, I went EVERY DEPARTMENT STORE YOU CAN THINK OF, and couldn't find anything.

FYI you most likely won't want a REAL corset under the gown. Real corsets have serious boning and you can't even bend at the waist in them (I know! I'm a rennie and I have one!), Not to mention, different undergarments have different shapes, and so will your dress! You probably don't want to buy an undergarment before you have the dress, they'll give you one to use, because you may end up with one that doesn't work with the dress you buy. It may show, etc.

I was a 40D when I purchased mine, also a size 16/18. I ordered it from Amazon and did wear it when I went to try on my dress the last time before I bought it. It was great, very supportive. I absolutely loved it. Here's the link for it...hope this is the right one (link--if it works, it is the right corset). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000CBXHR/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
