Plus one or not?

What is the etiquette on giving someone a plus one? I have some friends that know plenty of people at the wedding but aren’t actually dating anyone. Is it still proper etiquette to give them a plus one anyways? If not, what is the proper etiquette on giving plus ones?

Thanks for saying this. I thought this was how it goes but you're literally the only one in each forum who has stated this. I thought it was more relationship with you. Yes it's nice that folks are a unit but same for my fiance and I, if he were invited to a wedding without me and I never met the person inviting him I would understand. Weddings are extremely expensive so by all meas save every $ that you can. It's hard to stay consistent with relationships and making the determination that one couple has been together X amount of years so they can both come but the other is only X amount of years so only 1 person invited.

Lol that's why I had to say it!!! People are putting all this pressure on everybody on who to invite and the 'requirements' but who's paying for them because on my catering bill these people are counted singular not as a unit!
