Please help me with my dress alterations!

Jordan, on February 28, 2021 at 2:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I have done a lot of alterations to my dress, including changing the neckline.

The first picture shows where it was bunching in the middle so she added boning to help flatten it out.

The second picture is after she added the boning but now I just don't think it fits me that well and there's loose fabric in the middle of my waist.

Any advice, tips, etc?

Please ignore all the creases and wrinkles for now Smiley smile It will be pressed after everything is done!

I’m not sure what you’re talking about. That dress fits perfectly! It shows off your amazing figure!

I think once it’s steamed and pressed it’ll lay flat. If you’re still worried ask the seamstress about it. My last suggestion if all else fails is going for a belt or sash unless that’s not what you want.

The boning made a huge difference it looks great. I’m not seeing any loose fabric just some steaming to be done. You look great!

This is what I mean. It's like the fabric doesn't sit on my skin anymore so it's just loose fabric.

Honestly without the comparison picture I would have that that it was flush with your skin. I don't think it's hanging weirdly at all.

Ah ok I see it now! Honestly I still think it looks fabulous on you. I’m not sure what they could do with that but I would’ve never noticed that.

This is how the dress should look on the left. But this is how it looks on me on the right. Ugh. Any suggestions? I appreciate the kind words

It looks like it may need to be taken in a tiny bit more. But with the bonding you want to be able to bend/sit comfortably.

Do you have the time get a second opinion on alterations? I think parts of the dress fit better after adding bonding but it seems to have created new areas that need fixing.

You could also ask her to steam / press it now to get a better idea of how much of a problem that will be on your wedding day.

Honestly? I think it looked better without the boning. It's really easy to take out of the channels. You could have cups put in if you're unsure about the bustline, but I think you're right that it looked better before.

Steaming and pressing do amazing things. I taught a sewing class at a university, and it's pretty unbelievable what you can make disappear simply by pressing the seams correctly.

I think the bunching was because the dress either needs to be let out a tiiiiny bit in the hips (it could be bunching/riding up when you move) OR (like me) you're short-waisted, and it's a process of altering the torso of the dress. You have princess seams (the two in front) so you should get that dress to fit you like a glove.

How much time do you have?

My wedding is May 8. I’m going to call my seamstress tomorrow and go back. So you think I should take out the boning, go get it pressed, then I’ll have a better idea on what I need to do? I SO appreciate your help and advice 💗

Its almost as if the boning made it bunch in certain spots. I’d gave them take out the boning. It doesn’t look as symmetrical like it does on the left side. Gorgeous dress though you look great.
