Plated dinner without salad

Brooke, on May 18, 2018 at 5:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
We’re thinking about forgoing the salad. Yay/nay? Would you miss it or not care?

Background: Dinner is a combination plate with chicken and filet, potato, and vegetable.

Cocktail hour before with bruschetta, meatballs, veggies and dip.

Hi Brooke! It seems like additional variations of vegetables will already be incorporated in the food selection, so it looks like omitting the salad wouldn't make a huge difference. I would get a headcount of food eaters to see if any are vegan, pescatarian, or vegetarian. This would help you know if added veggies are necessary. Good luck!

It sounds like you could forgo salad! If you have vegans/vegetarians I hope your planning on a special dietary meal for them, not just a starter salad.

Another option is always to have a salad pre-set. Then people can eat them as they’re seated.

I think if you have another vegetable already then skipping salad isn’t the end of the world

Salad is nice for a palated dinner because it’s awakard having nothing in front of you as other tables are served.
My venue is having fruit then salad then a main dish. Maybe you can sub for a fruit salad before dinnner?

I actually think it would be super weird not to have a salad before a plated meal, but it wouldn’t like ruin the night for me, I just might be confused and think the caterer forgot!

Are you thinking of cutting the salad for budgetary reasons?

Yes because we have to rent/buy the dish’s so that would save me buying salad bowls and the salad

We had a duo plated meal of chicken and filet with mashed potatoes and veggies, and I really enjoyed having the salad before hand.

We were gone all throughout cocktail hour (they saved us a plate of apps) for pictures, and when we came back they announced us and we did our first dance and cut the cake (we we're outside and didn't want it to melt).

With the salad, plated meal, and cake that was put shortly after dinner we felt like guests got a nice three course dinner experience.

I would have A salad preset. This way while you have introductions and that’s your guest have something to eat. I’ve worked 100’s of weddings. I have never had one with no salads.

I don’t think I’ve ever attended a wedding that didn’t have a course/sometimes multiple courses before the entree. I would miss the salad.

I don't think not having a salad is that big of a deal, per se, but perhaps guests might miss having something before the main meal. I say that because typically at weddings, something is served before the main meal and I think a lot of people have become accustomed to that. Usually, after cocktail hour, but before dinner, there are speeches and introductions which delays the meal. If you don't want to have a plated salad per person, could you do your veggies family style already placed on the table? or even bread and butter? Just to satisfy those who like to nibble before the main course. If this isn't possible then I think you're absolutely okay with only serving a main course, which sound incredibly satisfying!

If my hubby and I were attending the wedding, we would miss the salad as we eat it every day. However, it sounds like cocktail hour is enough food so it is really up to you! We wouldn't stomp away mad or anything!!! Smiley smile

As a guest I would miss it, but it wouldn't be a huge deal.
