Plastic Cutlery

Runawaygirl, on October 10, 2017 at 1:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

One of my colors is rose gold. I love the color so much I have decided to to change charger plates by spray painting them rose gold. However, I'm not sure if silverware would look good or clash with the chargers. Would it be tacky to use plastic rose gold cutlery?

I did find real rose gold utensils but it's really expensive.

    If you have fancy rose gold chargers, I think plastic flatware would be weird. Silver flatware should be fine with the rose gold charger. I see mixed metal rings all the time, and I think they're beautiful. I also wear a rose gold watch with white gold and platinum rings, and it looks fine.

    Https://www.webstaurantstore.com/ if you do decide to use Plastic look on this website. They have a lot of heavy duty plasticware that looks very nice. I guess it depends on how formal your wedding is.

    Some of it looks real, but feels oh so fake and cheap.

    I'm not one who wants to use the word cheap to describe my wedding. Check out different rental companies.

    If you are using chargers, use real silverware. Personally, I think rose gold chargers with rose gold silverware would be a little too precious. Silver will be lovely with rose gold.

    Mixed metals are fine. Using a charger to add formality, then using plastic cutlery is a bit of an oxymoron.

    @miranda

    No rental service close to me offers rose gold, just silver.

    I would be very confused if I saw plastic utensils next to charger plates. The formality level would not match and I'd think it was an odd choice to spend money on chargers when you weren't getting real utensils.

    I think silver and rose gold will be fine next to one another. Perhaps incorporate both metals into your tablescape a second time so mixed metals looks intentional?

    @BlueHenBride

    Thanks for that advice.

    Although the plates are from the Dollar Store, they do look rather nice. I spray painted the one in the pic. I also found rose gold cutlery on Etsy that had really good reviews from other Brides. I was feeling that it would probably be tacky but wanted to hear other Bride's perspective.

    Your chargers really do look nice. I don't think anyone will noticed the mixed metals in a bad way. Mixed metals are trendy. Plenty of people mix metals in their jewelry. It will look fine, just embrace it.

    Silver will pair nicely with the rose gold. Use real silverware.

    Just an FYI - metallic spray paint will rub off on your hands if you don't do a top coat. However, you also can't spray paint a clear top coat on metallic spray paint as it dulls the finish. If this is the case, let me know and I'll tell you what I did.

    Now to the silverware. The charger is taken away once the meal starts to be served so it's only on the table a short while. Use real silverware.

    Chargers come in all sorts of colors. Silverware is expected to be silver. You are overthinking this.

    And the answer is ALWAYS real silverware.

    @stpaulgal you have some valid points however silverware or (flatware) eating utensils are not only limited to be silver. I don't think I'm over thinking it, I just asked a question due to what I've seen on Pinterest. Smiley smile

    Definitely use real silverware. I think the over matchy matchy look of all rose gold would be tacky in and of itself, not to mention plastic silverware sucks if you have to eat anything substantial. In my opinion plastic tableware should not be used for a formal/semi-formal event.

    Use the silver; it will be lovely with the rose gold. My wedding band is rose gold and sits next to my silver engagement ring beautifully. Agree with PP's about the formality, the plastic cutlery just screams potluck or picnic, not wedding.

    I would do silverware and go for a mixed metal look.

    Be careful with how you spray paint the plastic! I would definitely look a lot into the right way to do this!
