Planning- what am i missing?!

Jesalina, on August 20, 2018 at 2:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi all,
As I am planning I was just wondering what you did or didn't do for your wedding that you wished you would have. What did you feel like you missed out on at your wedding?! What did you have at your wedding that you felt like you could have done without? Thank you in advance ❤

Following, because I'd love to know so that I can include/not include these things in my day, as well

I just feel like I don't want to spend money on things that don't even matter, or not spend money on things that I should have been focused on!

My wedding is in 6 weeks but when I first started planning I made a rule that if I didn’t have a strong opinion about it or didn’t get excited about it then it wasn’t important. Also I tried to think about the things I’ve noticed at other weddings I’ve been to. So for me that meant no signs, programs, or guestbook at my own wedding. We are also doing 3 different desserts instead of a wedding cake. Everyone has different things that are important to them but for me it was my venue, good food, and good alcohol! DJ and photographer were also important but beyond that I didn’t really care haha.

I've been watching Four Weddings a lot and nixing things left and right. IF I had more money then I would def include more of the frivolous things but being on a budget, I'm going to limit what I believe should be there

Best thing we did was to rent a big house where we and all our guests could stay the night before the wedding and the wedding night. That meant we got a chance to spend time with family we don't often see, outside of formal events.

Otherwise, we really stuck to what was important to us, and skipped the rest. We had minimal decorations at the ceremony, and none at the luncheon immediately following (which was at a restaurant). We had a professional photographer only for the ceremony, not the whole day. We skipped a lot of traditions that weren't meaningful to us, like bouquet and garter tosses.

Right i kind of agree with the PP, i read an article that listed the top 5 things that guest remember from the wedding. Most was the ceremony, food, dj/music, and I forget the others. But also useful was what guests do not remember like centerpieces and tablecloths. I'm trying to keep telling myself to forget about those small things no one is going to remember so i don't waste extra money. I probably won't even remember myself. Food/Drink, Cake, Music...amongst my top things. Videography and Photography was a big one for me. I wanted both as i highly value photos and videos of special moments equally.

Following! I keep thinking i want to find little signs or something to put around, or get some lavender to have to put places, but that sounds exhausting and expensive.

Thank you all for your input! I am just thinking how much I wish we did a destination wedding! I understand feelings can be hurt but this wedding is getting out of hand. It's not enjoyable anymore. I need to focus on dj and pbotgraher being amazing. Have the venue already.

We had a DW & local reception with amazing venues, food, drinks & musicians. Would do it again! We waaaay over-spent on DIY decor. Thought we’d spend $1K max at both...we spent $5K. 😡 The $5-$20 costs add up (and supplies).

Oh! Our photographer hired a 2nd shooter and we were so thankful for this! Even though she only stayed 60-90 minutes, they did a “divide & conquer” approach and without her we would have missed some key decor shots she focused on. We were very very lucky. All that effort & money, you want all the amazing photos you can get. 😃
