Planning Timeline - First Steps

SummerBrideInAutumn, on July 30, 2019 at 11:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

For all of you who are newly engaged (and even for those who aren't), how far in advance do you anticipate that you'll start your planning? And once you start planning, what do you hope to accomplish first?

For us, we started planning a little over 12 months out and our first step was finding our venue. The venue dictated our date and the overall feel for our wedding.

We started planning about 6 weeks after our engagement, we wanted to enjoy it for a little bit first. From there we booked our venue first, giving us about 14 months from engagement to wedding.

I started planning about 1 year out.

12 mo- Venue, Photographer, engagement pictures, and Pinterest

8 mo- Save the Dates, engagement party, videographer, guest list, and more Pinterest

5 mo- Cake, cake tasting, catering, DJ, wedding gifts, DOC, HMUA, rings, bridesmaid dresses, pre-marital counseling, and registry

3 mo- Bridal shower, invitations, and a lot of WW forums

1 mo- Bachelorette / Bachelor parties, decor, day of timeline, bridal portraits, hair & make up trials, and finalizing everything with vendors

.....and of course all of the little things in between, but I also took breaks in between things and spread it all out.

We started planning roughly a month after our engagement. Originally started out with a May 2020 date, but changed it to December!

I feel like my planning didn't have a specific timeline other than me booking dj and venue about ten months or so out. I took a one to two month break from wedding planning so that kind of made me rush after

We started planning a little over a year out which was about a month after we got engaged. We originally wanted a late September wedding but the venue we loved only had summer so we went with that. After we decided on the venue and date, we moved on to catering and a DJ and so on. I have a wedding planning book so we mostly followed the suggested timeline in there.

We started planning about a year out as well. We prioritized getting a house first after we got engaged. So, we are basically engaged for a week short of 2 years when the wedding day comes.

I started planning even before we were engaged! We decided in February this year that we wanted to get married on Leap Day next year. I had my photographer/videographer/photo booth booked before our engagement and had toured my venue, bought my dress and shoes. I LOVE wedding planning and wanted to start as soon as we knew we were going to get married next year.

I didn't officially book anything before we were engaged, but I had definitely done a ton of research on venues and photographers. I wanted to be prepared to hit the ground running once he officially asked! ;-)
