Planning slump

Tara, on January 29, 2020 at 8:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
I know that planning slumps can be normal, but I’m stuck and can’t get a move on it! I told myself it would pick up after the first of the year, but here it is almost February and I’m still “ehh.” It might be because I got so much done in the beginning. I have a few things in the works now. We start our dance classes this Saturday. Everything that is left just isn’t exciting lol Any advice on how to get excited again? We’re creeping up on the 6 month mark and it freaks me out that I’m not motivated.

Me and my girls went and got their dresses, and that got me moving along again! I also went over what we've spent, still need to pay, and still need to get and looked at a few checklists.

Oh I totally get this. From months 6-3 I probably made one decision per week and usually pretty minor. I’m 70 days out and it’s starting to pick up for me. I wouldn’t stress about the slump. There’s just a period where the “big” decisions have been made. Im now on the small details and honestly wish I was back in month 5/6😂

Make a list (or print one offline!) and check off all the things you've done already! Then see if what's left has any spark to it and start there!

Can I help? I have so much fun with this stuff that I'm tossing around starting a business for it. We're still over a year out from our date and we're two months ahead bc I just LOVE doing this stuff!
Seriously, though, my excitment aside, some stuff isn't as fun. Think about what your vision is for your day, the look on your groom's face as you walk down the aisle, the perfect look of your venues, the excited chatter of your guests and either hunker down to get it done or find somebody like me who LOVES doing this and send a message, email or phone call. If you want mine I'd be more than happy to give it to you.
I am so excited for you! This may not be the most exciting part but somebody has to make it happen to pull off your vision without a hitch.

I’ve been using the checklist here on WW. I will open it, look at it, and go ehhhh okay I guess I’ll do this. That’s the farthest I get lol. It feels too early to do a lot of it, but it’s probably not. I need to call about chair rentals, but I’ve been saying that all month.

Awe thank you 😊 That’s so sweet. Some of it is not fun lol For example, have no motivation to order chairs or help write the ceremony. The last exciting thing I did was pick lighting.

Please please please, can I help?? Writing up our ceremony and the wording for our programs was one of my favorite parts! We are combining some traditions (he's from Hawaii, I'm from Tennessee via Ohio), and putting some twists on some traditions too. I can send you a copy of ours if you want to see. I even put ours in our colors! Lol.
Chairs seems to be needlessly complex, too. What type, are you moving them to the reception from the ceremony space (not reccomend unless they are in the same space/venue) padded or not, are you planning to have them covered? (Easy solution? Simple solid chairs for both spaces (estimated guest count x 2, get white covers (literally 0 of your guests will remember the color of the covers, but some WILL remember the sashes and how they were tied/pinned) for one or both sets and sashes for the reception space in your colors, have a simple tie difference for family if you want them to stand out without added cost).
Can you tell I LOVE this stuff? Lol. 💜💜💜💜I know you're struggling with it, I was sincere in my offer.

We have reception chairs that come with our venue so I am renting them for ceremony only to avoid having to move them. I found some local places here I just need to call and book lol I’m not doing anything fancy for them, just plain folded chairs. Honestly, I could care less about them because we will have a short ceremony. 🤷‍♀️ We’re pretty laid back people and our outdoor space is gorgeous as is. I’m not sure I will even decorate them.

Might I suggest a simple sash? No need to get super fancy with it, but adding a small detail can make a huge difference over the scope of a room. Personally, I prefer to cover chairs simply for uniformity. You could have 10 different colors and types of chair under a cover and nobody will be any the wiser as long as they're all the same shape. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Like I said previously, though, most people will forget if you covered the chairs or not. Most importantly, you have to be happy with your choice.

Honestly I'm just under 2 months out and I'm not excited anymore either lol.

I really don't think I'll get excited until my bridal shower next month lol.

I feel ya. i remember being really productive in the beginning and then i took a long break after. if you got a lot done already though that's good. i think in this case maybe you can just cut out things and make it simpler?

Go to some sort of local bridal event near you! Even if it is just a cake tasting at a local grocery store, you'll feel special and excited because you;re the bride!

Do you have suggestions on where I can find affordable sashes? I did get some pep in my step this weekend. I got some quotes for chairs. As long as the company sends me over the invoice tomorrow- they’ll be reserved. I also made some calls about a rehearsal dinner location, but nothing set in stone yet.

What city&state or country (I'm all too well aware that not everyone is getting married in America)?
