Planning progress- what am i forgetting/can do now?

Anna, on August 26, 2019 at 10:45 AM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi everyone!
Just a little back story on me and our wedding. I’m Russian and spent half of my life growing up there before moving to the US as a teen. Because I’m kind of in between two worlds I don’t know much about American wedding traditions and neither does my mom.
So I feel like I’m constantly missing something during planning or just simply don’t know about it because of cultural differences.

We got engaged aged in November 2018 and decided to have a long engagement (almost two years). So we had plenty of time to pick our vendors but now I feel like I hit a plateau. This is what I have planned so far for our wedding in September 2020. Any suggestions on what I can work on right now will be greatly appreciated!

-Venue(ceremony, reception and also our accommodations) : booked
- Catering : comes with the venue booked
- all flatware, glassware, chairs, tables etc : included with venue
- Menu/tasting : chosen
- Wedding dress : bought
- Wedding shoes: bought
- Photographer : booked
- Wedding playlist (not doing a DJ) : finished
- Videographer : in process of signing the contract
- Bridal Party : selected, color for dresses and suits picked
- Gifts for parents and bridal party : bought
- Flowers (will DIY) : researchers and chosen types of flowers need to order closer to the wedding date
- Save the Dates: sent ( destination wedding)
- Invitations: Designed need to be printed
- Favors : picked (have to order a month before the wedding)
- HMUA: will DIY

thanks again!

It seems you've taken care of all of the big ticket items and most of the smaller detailed ones. I would enjoy this time of relaxation. I'm in the same boat with having gotten most things out of the way. I'm getting married next October.

Hi! Thanks, I think you are right now is the time to relax. I’ve just been so busy at work and planning these past few months that it feels weird to slow down 🙈 but I just need to embrace it and enjoy the engagement

Wow, it sounds like you have a really good handle on things so far. The nice thing about a longer engagement is that you have plenty of time to get things done. I know you said you feel like you've hit a plateau, but that's how it is with wedding planning. It's a flurry of activity, and then nothing for months.

Do you plan to create a wedding website for your guests? You can work on that now. There are tools here on Wedding Wire to do that. Also, I've heard of some other sites that do good wedding websites, like Zola and The Knot.

You didn't mention anything about a honeymoon. Will you and FH be taking one immediately after the wedding? Some couples wait a bit, for lots of reasons. But you could start your research on that at least.

Another thing I thought of was engagement photos? Will you be doing those? This would be a good time to get that scheduled, if you are. Our photography package came with a free engagement photo session, so we scheduled that right after we booked our photographer.

If someone wants to throw you a bridal shower, those usually take place 1-3 months before the wedding. But that's a gift giving event, so you should not throw that for yourself. Maybe your mom would like to do that.

Finally, the only other thing I've thought of (because I'm working on it myself) is the Rehearsal Dinner. If you're not aware, most couples have a wedding rehearsal, usually the day before the wedding, to practice the walk down the aisle, where everyone needs to stand, etc. Afterwards, you host a dinner to thank your bridal party for participating. It could be an at-home BBQ, or it can be a nicer meal at a restaurant. The details are up to you, based on what you'd like and what you can afford.

Otherwise, it sounds like you're right on track, and doing great!! Happy planning!!

    Hi Cristy!
Thanks for reminding me, we definitely need to start looking into honeymoon plans! Maybe now I can focus on that, since it’s a more exciting part of planning Smiley smile

I forgot to put it on original post but we did take engagement photos and already created the website and registry.

For rehearsal dinner my FMIL kindly offered to plan it. So we’re waiting closer to 9-7 months out to discuss it more in depth.
