Has anyone here ever planned their wedding from abroad? My fiance and I live in Asia, but we decided to have our wedding in my hometown in NY for various reasons. This means all of our planning will be done from abroad via email and sites/apps like this. Is this going to make things as difficult as I fear it will? Or is it completely practical in this day and age?

I’m doing my wedding in the town I live in and honestly, 80% of my planning has been online. It’s totally doable!

No problem! I think the hardest might be venue searching but if you’re dong it somewhere your family can go to and take pics of you should be fine!

I totally think it's doable. People do it for destination weddings all the time. Maybe hire a wedding planner in NY to help with all the odds and ends to help relieve the stress.

Unfortunately a wedding planner isn't really in the cards for us as they're terribly expensive and we're trying for a bit of a budget wedding. But thank you for you're encouragement!

I had my wedding in Westchester, NY and I planned everything from Toronto, Ontario. You can do it! You'll just have to depend more on online recommendations and the vibe you get from the vendor's communication style. I should warn you though that NY state is one of the most expensive places to get married in North America...

I completely understand! We got married in Westchester because my husband is American and his family is from the tri-state area. I think you can definitely plan a beautiful wedding from abroad...with tools found on WeddingWire (and the Knot). I also highly recommend GigSalad if you're looking for musicians.
