Planning do-over?

Jessica, on February 12, 2020 at 2:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hi lovelies!

I have recently found myself wishing I could start the whole planning process over again. Pick different (or fewer) Bridesmaids, different bridesmaid dresses, shopped around more for my dress, put more thought into my hair and makeup, and a few other little things.

It's really too late to do anything about it and I'm probably just overthinking it anyway. I was just wondering if anyone else has had these feelings?

I've also had those feelings about having a wedding party. There hasn't really been any drama, we just would have preferred to not have bridesmaids/groomsmen if we could go back. I'm also still thinking that we should have eloped (that actually is because of family drama), but I think that's fairly normal lol. But you're right, we're too close now to do anything about it! We've just got to roll with the punches and make the best of what we've planned Smiley smile

Don't worry! It'll all workout, you'll love every minute. It's pretty normal to think "if I did this over I'd change..." because no wedding is 100% perfect (that I've heard of) but I promise the day will be amazing!

Thankfully I haven't had any drama either, I just feel like two haven't been super involved so I wonder if it would have made a difference really.

Thank you for those words of encouragement; I guess it's just seeing all of the different options out there that makes me wonder if I made the right choices. You are right though in saying that no wedding is 100% perfect, even if it looks like it is.

Yes. I wanted all of our siblings in the bridal party so now we have a total of 12 bridesmaids and groomsmen. I should've found other ways to include them in the wedding ceremony lol because it would've saved us a few hundred dollars...I wasn't thinking.

Also, I shouldn't have asked my sister's sister-in-law to do my hair or implied she's hired. I should've waited to have a trial and then let her know. But either way it's going to be awkward. Her work was okay but I didn't love my hair, I want to love it and have it be perfect...so now I'm spending even more money and going to have an awkward conversation.

I also wonder if I should've spent so much on my cultural dress. Lol I could've saved $200 by renting one but no, I was so set on my colors being deep red/gold Thai dress.

Lol! It's nice that you wanted to include all of them though.

Oh no! I had a similar situation with one of my bridesmaid's sister who offered to do my hair. It took weeks to finally schedule a trial together and then I wasn't quite feeling it. I'm thinking it will all be ok though, it has to be.

It's nice to know there are others with these thoughts. I constantly feel like, "Ugh, I should've..." but I guess right now mine are "fixable". At least I know I'm making decisions that would make me happier but it's just all so much money. Argh.

I know, I've thought of changing some things but really I don't have the money to be buying more things that will only be used once.

I had those feelings when I was going through it. Doubting everything and second guessing myself, but everything turned out amazing.

Same! I mean I love finding things that work with my vision but I'm so tired of making decisions and stressing over stupid stuff.

Wow! You have asked a lot of questions. And you still have a bit of time to get everything sorted which must be nice.

I think about this too, especially with the wedding party since it does get so expensive. I had the same feeling after getting my dress too since it was the first place I went. I just fell in love with it and a few days later I couldn’t stop second guessing my decision!! Going in for alterations eventually definitely helped reassure me though. I feel like it’s totally normal for us to second guess things, and this app really helps when I feel like I’m the only one feeling a certain way!

It really does help to have this app. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one second guessing all of my decisions.

That's so normal. I remember during my planning I'd have those moments where I wish I did this instead of that and in hindsight I think about that too.

I have those moments too, where I wish I’d done this or that differently. But in the end I was happy with my day, and glad the planning was over!

You're not alone. I've had a lot of remorse on the dress I bought. My fiance and I got in a HUGE fight the day before my mom and sister came in town to go dress shopping with me. I felt obligated to buy a dress even though my heart was broken from the fight the day before.

Part of me wants the experience of buying a wedding dress and being happy about it! But ultimately I have no one to go dress shopping with and there's not enough time before my wedding to order a dress.

I've accepted this because life goes on and it's not about the wedding, it's about the marriage that comes next. There's not a thing wrong with anything that I've done to plan the wedding so far, so I just need to appreciate my choices as they contribute to the celebration of my marriage.
