Planning a wedding in 4 months/planning on paper

Claudia, on August 20, 2019 at 7:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 2
Hi y'all,

Posting again after some great advice from some gals. My fiance and I postponed our wedding last year, and now we're about ready to start planning again. Since we had already started planning, we have a deposit with a venue which agreed to hold it for another date. The venue includes photographer, cake, DJ, food, linens etc, and flowers. We plan on doing both ceremony and reception there. I also already have a dress and veil.

We don't want to set the date or start spending money yet until we're sure we will have enough money for everything. We were thinking March of next year, since our anniversary is the same month. My fiance suggested planning everything on paper, and once we're ready, start making moves with the venue and vendors.

My question is: if we hold off on booking anything for a couple of months, would it be crazy to start booking things in November? Giving us about 4 months to plan. I wouldn't want to push the wedding too far into next year since we're in Miami and it would be really hot to have an outdoor ceremony, which is what we wanted. Any suggestions? Has anyone here planned a wedding on paper before?

Miami is a popular wedding city so I wouldn’t delay booking anything you absolutely have your heart set on because other brides are booking those things a year in advance.

    Hey there Claudia!

Many couples plan their wedding within a couple of months so it is possible, however, there is one important factor to consider.

Many vendors book up months in advance. If you have specific vendors in mind you want to work with, it would be best to book them as soon as possible to secure them for your date. If you start booking vendors four months out you may find you have a very limited list to work with that are available on your date.

Many vendors do not require full payment at the time of booking, just a deposit to hold the date. You could also see if it would be possible to negotiate with the different vendors that a rescheduling of the date would not affect your deposit in case the date has to be pushed out from March 2020.

Are you using a budget tool to help you keep yourself organized while you do your virtual planning?
