Place cards/seating chart/ both

andrea, on April 10, 2017 at 10:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hello, I am wondering what would be the best option for a seating chart. Either a board that has the tables with all the tables listed with names or to have place cards on a table and have the guests find their name which has their table number on it or does the place cards go on the tables itself.

Place cards go on the table itself, what you're thinking of are called escort cards and they sit on a table and guests pick them up and find their table. Depending on how many guests you're having it may be hard to do a board- plus everyone would be crowded around it trying to read it. (Of course, they could also be crowded around an escort card table, but usually for a little less time, as they're arranged in alphabetical order.)

ETA: We're having around 250 people at our wedding, so we're doing escort cards. I still haven't decided on place cards. . ..might depend on how the seating starts to turn out. Like if their are lots of couples at a table, I don't want people leaving seat between them and then it gets awkward, cause you have to ask someone to move down one seat.

Andrea, how many people are you planning on seating at each table? If you're looking at 8-10 per round table, then you'd have ten or more tables, so I'd think about how a chart would look. Also, the formality of your event might help you decide as well. Escort cards are more formal than a chart.

With 100 people most of the tables will have 8 but to split up the last table about 4 tables out of 12 will have 9 at the table

I'm having the same question in my mind also. We're only having about 50 or so with tables ranging from 5-8 people per table. I was gonna do a big chalkboard with everyone's name as that seemed easier than writing all the names on a computer, getting the right paper, printing them all out and then cutting them accurately. Still debating tho as my MOH isn't a fan.

I much prefer escort cards, so that is what we are doing. And if you are having a plated dinner they are more or less required, since you have to have a way to indicate who chose which dish.

We have around 100 guests. 80 (or however many) of them will be on the seating chart. We are doing a sign with names and table numbers then place cards at the table. The other 20 is the wedding party and their spouses and they will be at head style table and we will have a sweetheart table.

In my mind, escort cards are the way to go. Agree with others who have said crowding around a chart to find your place is weird. Plus, the chart is usually designed to read by table. In my opinion, it makes more sense to find your name, which would be laid out in alphabetical order if using the cards. That's how I think to look, not be reading each table number then hoping my name isn't on the last table listed!

Yeah I have about 35 guests so I think I'll be doing a chart. I have to double check with my DOC - my venue might have a preference and then that would definitely help me make a decision!

I prefer escort cards for anything close to or over 100 people.

I had 58 guests and did one seating chart which displayed a card for each table listing the guests sitting there. The cocktail hour and dining were all in one room so guests had plenty of time to view it and find their table. No problems with crowding or anything.

We're only having 50-60 guests, so I'm making a chart with placecards on the tables. It seems like the most efficient way to do it with a small-ish wedding.

My escort cards will have a table, the card will indicate your name, table # and they will be different colors for the waiter to determine what meal has been chosen
