Place cards

Are place cards necessary if you are just doing assigned tables, not seats?

You don't need to put a place card at the seats, though you would need a way to tell everyone what their assigned table number is (and also list entree choice, depending on if the guests got to choose their meal), either through an escort card or a sign that lists everyone's name and table number.

We are doing a buffet so we won’t need to know their food choices. Would that mean I could do something like this instead of the little place cards? Place cards 1

They’re not necessary if it’s only assigned tables

I would say yes because it lets them know which table are assigned to. Not everyone does a central chart as pictured to prevent traffic jams, and some guests may have vision issues. Also with a card, if they get sidetracked on the way with conversations, they can refer to the card in hand without having to go back to the chart to start over.

I think I like the idea of doing it like that photo. It will be way easier on my part then having to figure out how to even print the place card 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes! You can totally go for a seating chart instead of escort cards or place cards!

I love the example picture you shared!!

I agree with others who have answered - no need for placecards as long as it's communicated with guests which table they're sitting at!

This is a great idea! I'm thinking of doing something similar. We will actually have ours set up by name in alphabetical order.
