Place Cards

Victoria, on March 13, 2021 at 4:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 32

Hello! This may be a stupid question, but I am looking into place cards for our wedding on June 26th and being that I don't know who is coming yet (invitations go out this month), do I order them blank and then write them in as people rsvp (although it wouldn't look as nice/neat) or do I wait for people to rsvp and then order the place cards with the names already printed? Or do I order place cards with everyones name on them from the whole guest list whether they're coming or not and then only put out the ones of the people who are coming? Although, that would be a waste of money. I'm definitely overthinking lol, but just making sure everything is perfect and I am on top of things. Thank you!

I also wanted to ask, do venues usually also have you provide the numbers to be place on each table?? Or do they usually provide the numbers to label the tables?

Order them blank from Etsy. Have extras for mistakes, last minute changes, etc. You will not know who goes where until final rsvps come in. In the mean time, make a mockup table chart with post it note strips for each guest and figure out who fits best at each table. You will mix these around alot.

Great! Thank you because yeah that's the thing, if I wait for everyone to rsvp that will be way too last minute to order place cards. Thank you thank you!

Exactly - order them blank. I’m not doing place cards but am doing a seating chart. Guests can sit wherever they want at their table. I ordered a template from Etsy for $6.

I purchased blank Avery gold border place cards (1 pack of 150 for about $25) and printed them myself. I printed them a week before my wedding. Worked like a charm.

How did you print them yourself? You mean like you hand wrote them yourself?

What I liked is you can choose your background & font! I have terrible handwriting plus I don’t want to spend hours writing! I was able to use card stock from work & printed them out for free!

I ordered them from Amazon and ran them through my printer at home. It was awesome, because we had some last minute changes, and I was easily able to move people around by reprinting cards.

There is a template on Microsoft Word for most Avery products. I downloaded the template (6 place cards on a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper), typed the info on each place card on the template, and printed them on my home printer. The place cards are perforated so they are easy to separate.

Do you display some version of the seating chart, a list or something if you aren’t using place cards?

My rsvps are due a month before my wedding, so I'm ordering mine from Etsy the week after rsvps are due preprinted. They should only take 2 weeks to arrive. I'm not a huge DIY person and would prefer to pay someone else to do it, but it's completely up to you!

Oh wow yeah, that's a really good idea actually! I've used those Avery templates at work before.

I am so not a DIY person either haha I am just not very good at it and then I stress out if it doesn't come out just right. Thank you!

Our venue has a board like this that they’re letting us use. I’m bringing the cards to the rehearsal & they’re going to put them up. Our greeters will point out the seating chart.

Some people use charts. They can be difficult to read and guests forget their assignments without a card. Also without cards, your catering waitstaff will not know who gets which meals if you are serving plated dinners.

You need placecards regardless of big or small guest list.
